Confused

I have surgery this thursday (august 5th) and as much as I learned what to do BEFORE surgery, what to do after is still a mystery to me.

I am not sure what I can have to "eat"
some people say yogurt will save me mentally
I've heard so many different things

I was hoping those who have had surgery and tell me what they did when they were out after a day, week, month, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Post-op is sort of a process. While there are some similarities, people have different results as to what works for them.
First off, follow the guidelines your medical team gives you. We are fortunate to not be FIRST in this process. The doctors have come up with a roadmap for you.  Basically, tyou are starting with a very small pouch and a swollen opening. It will take several months before it all heals. They have an increasing type and quantity of food along that journey.
Do not go too far astray, as if you add in wrong food types or eating patterns, you can kill your success. There is no reason to go through this whole ordeal of body change and NOT be successful.
Find a group of people that meet a couple of times a month to discuss issues and encourage each other. It will make a world of difference.
Always eat protein first. You will also find that some things that are good for you are harder to eat than some things that are kinder to your new pouch.
I have eaten a lot of chili and refried beans. I love wendy's chili, and I do eat the insides of a burrito from Taco Bell. I can eat ground beef, but have difficulty with pork and chicken brest. Some people like tuna with a bit of mayo, It doesn't work for me. And on and on it goes.

Well, you are 5 days post op now, I hope you are feeling well. I would meet with Mary, the dietician at Elmbrook, she is amazing. I had a different surgery than you, so my guidelines are different, but I think Elmbrook should have given you big packets of handouts.

I hope you are feeling well and I hope to see you at support group meetings in the future!

I love Mary, but she is a food dream killer, and my friend's mom is a dietian also and its just easier getting my advice from her.
