Dr. Chua did my VBG almost 6 years ago. Thank God he did! I went to 2 other seminars from other doctors and none seemed as personal as he and his team were.  You first need to attend a seminar. They are held the first Wednesday of every month. You also need to call to reserve a spot because they fill up fast and the room is only for 100 people.  I am a speaker there, and am there every month.  His program is very comprehensive and has made the hospital a Center Of Excellence.  He is a fabulous doctor that, once you are a patient of his, you are always a patient of his.  He is not the "treat 'em and street 'em" doctor that will do a surgery on just anyone who walks through the door.  His team of psychologists and dieticians are fabulous and prepare you very well for this life long, life changing event.  Unlike other doctors, he cares about your success for the rest of your life.  You can read my profile blog which tells much of what I've gone through.  Please attend the seminar and get some great valuable information!

I had an RNY with Dr Chua in March.  You do spend alot of  time with his support team depending an the requirements of your insurance company.  They are very good.

I also had Dr Chua do my RNY on July 28, 2009 I am done 154 lbs now. I currently weigh 163.2 lbs I use to be at 317.5 lbs. He gave me my life back. I no longer take meds either. Just my supplements.

I highly recommend the support group once a month every 3rd Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm across the street from Aurora Sinai hospital in the heart instuite.

good luck

I was going to go with Chua, my surgery was supposed to be this Wednesday, but I changed my mind. I'm getting the duodenal switch now. Chua has only done 7 duodenal switches so I have decided to get a surgeon who is more experienced.
I'm not sure how Chua is on the vsg, but as far as RNY, he is one of the best! He has done over 3,000 RNY's and is a very skilled surgeon.
If I were to get the RNY, he would without a doubt be the man for me.
I have a high BMI, and studies show that the DS is far superior for WLS than the RNY. And the fact that I NEED to take the occasion NSAID for my SEVERE cramping... I was hooked on DS

Oh, one more thing...
I started pursuing WLS October 2009 (I attended seminar) and I finally had a date of May 12, 2010. So it is a VERY lengthy process... (some people need to wait a yea) one of the things that pissed me off the most... you HAVE to get a psych eval (virtually all center of excellence establishments require it) but they only have ONE psych you can see and she is always booked wayyyy out.
Right now I am looking in Bariatric Institute of Wisconsin.. and they have a list of psychs you can see.... Honestly.. I think Bariatric Institute of WI will have a shorter time before surgery (insurance pending.. my insurance gives approval VERY quickly)

On January 31, 2008, my life started to change.  That was the day I went to see Dr. Manfred Chaing at Bariatric Institute of Wisconsin for my consult for WLS.

I originally wanted the Band but at a BMI of 64, he strongly recommended against it.  He presented both the RNY and DS but for a lot of different reasons, I went with RNY and the main reason for that was because I was a sugar addict and the threat of dumping keeps me away from excess sugar.

When all was said and done, the only regret is that I didn't do this long ago.  I owe Dr. Chaing my life.  Their staff (Megan, Lynn, Kris, Colleen, Darlene, Jaime and now Silvana) are all awesome and are willing to help in any way they can.  All you have to do is ask.

I am going to Dr. Chua's seminar this Wednesday evening (7/7/10). My friend who had her lapband done in Mexico has had him as her followup physician for 10 years and absolutely loves him. I live about 2.5 hours away from his office but am willing to travel that far is he is that good.

Have you met with him? Have you been to one of his seminars? Any input you may have would be appreciated. Thanks.

I went to Dr Chua's Seminar in Oct 2009 and I instantly knew this was the doctor for me! I have been to other seminar's and never felt as comfortable as I did here. In Oct I was 265 after my 6 month diet I was aproved for a VBG and on May 5th I had my surgery I was at 252 lbs. Since than with a lot of support from Dr Chua's support staff mostly the dietitions and I am now 217 lbs(that's 48 lbs in 8 months!) I feel GREAT! I can move around so much easer and I never could have even imagened how I feel now. I no longer ware my stupid walking boot and my knees also are doing much better! I don't even use my disability sticker anymore :) I owe it all to Dr Chua!
