Hi Daisy! There is no set diet of what Dr. Chua has set for anyone post-op this long. Essentially, it goes back to the rule of everything in moderation. That's where the surgery comes in. Mine is purely restrictive, so small quantities are key. But my job is to make sure those small quantities aren't filled with bad calories of ice cream, candy, etc. The dietician taught us what a balanced diet is, and that is what I try to stick to. I occasionally have the bad things, but in very limited doses. My main concerns with my food is protein and liquids. Proteins are easiest for me in forms of yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, my protein drink, pudding, fish, chicken, etc. My liquids are hardest for me because I get dehydrated easily from running. I like to drink the zero calorie drinks like crystal light, propel fitness water, coffee, and chocolate silk. Since you are experiencing difficulties with blood sugars and foods, I would suggest making an appointment at Dr. Chua's office to speak with the dietician again. That's what they are there for. I would also do a week or 2 of keeping track of foods eaten, like on TheDailyPlate.com or something like that. Keeping track of quantities, calories, and the percentage of food quality is also an easy way to show the dietician your dilema. Use the doctor and his staff. They are always there for you!
when was the last time you saw the nutritionist? Dr. Prewitt's team is very helpful. Laura at Comm. Mem. is very easy to work with. Sorry you seem to have trouble with Dr. Prewitt. I have had only positive experiences and can't relate to that. Coming to the September WLS support group meeting?? Maybe you can get ideas there. Not sure if I have ever seen you at those meetings? I have been going to them for a year now. Anyways, hope you find what you are looking for with the diet info.
I am typing from the bariatric surgery diet guideline book I was given by the dietician from the Dr Chua program.
Bariatric clear liquids was 1-2 days
Bariatric full liquides was 1-2 days
Bariatric pureed was 2 weeks
Bariatric soft 2 weeks (yesterday was suppose to be the last day on this one) 3 to 4 ounces of soft food at each meal
These are the recommended foods for the soft diet: Beverages, water, sf non carbonated, coffee, tea, Dairy 1 %, skim, lactos free or soy milk, high protein drinks , smooth yogurt. Soups, broth, bouillin, low fat cream, or both based soup. Meat moist grown lean meat or poultry, flaked fish, eggs, low fat cottage cheese, creamy peanut butter. Starches cooked or dry cereal, potatoes without skin, rice or pasta in sauce, crackers, vegetables are soft cooked vegetables aovoid those with hulls or tough skin such as peas ad corn. Fruits unsweetened canned fruit without skins, applesauce, Desserts/sweets sf pudding, sf gelation and sf popsicles. This is all under the soft diet.
General diet should increase portions to 12 ounces (1 1/2 cups) I can't even eat the much at all. Protein should goal 60 to 80, avoid dry, stringy hard, crisp meats. Meats should be moist, cut in small piecs and thorougly chewed. Also low in fat. Dairy foods skim milk, fat cheese, cottage cheese, light yogurt. Fruits should be soft. Vegetables should be soft with a gradual progression to raw vegetables. Starches crackers, toast hot or soft cold cereals, potatoes without skin and preparted without fat. starches should be limited to 1 item/serving per meal. Fresh breads may still be poorly tolerated. Beverages should be the same as soft. Also it says 1200 calories to maintain weight loss. The nut told me I should be at 1200 calories by the time I reach general diet. I am not there at all. Maybe at 800 or little higher some days.
