ugh got a hemotoma from the blood work yesterday

I show it to the surgeon assistant and called the hospital and talk to the nurse and made a complaint. She said had got written up yesterday and now has to be supervised. Wonder who else she messed up on. I told her don't want her on the day of my surgery I will run away. Told her i want someone experience and isn't going to give me hemotomas from blood work or Iv's.

Oh that is horrible. 

I have rolling veins and I have had my blood drawn from my hand with the smaller needles.  If it looked like it couldn't be found, the hand it is.

I think it resulted from a dr.'s nurse (a long time ago) who hit both my arms much like yours.  I had to go back to work that way--I looked like I was in a prize fight and didn't win the prize.

Things from here will get better.

Thank  you for the support and understanding. I am not getting that on the main forum. OMG its a nightmare there. I feel like I did something wrong and getting stressed out because I have to keep defending myself. And I get called a baby and that I have attitude.

Do I have attitude??

I don't need this before I am having my surgery which is in 3 days.

I am a certified Phlebotomist, and contrary to your (and everyone elses) belief, 95 % of hematomas are not caused by human error. Most of the time a hematoma is caused from your blood being too thin and not clotting properly. I completely understand your concern with having hematomas, but no matter what you do you have to deal with the luck of the draw. Sorry if I sound pushy, just wanted to state the facts.

well she was digging around in there side to side and in and out of the vein and going deeper. I would of rather her stick me again instead of diggin around in my vein. The hemotamo was treated by the nurse by the order of my surgeon. I had lost feelings in my finger tips from it. NO matter how much I moved them and wiggle them they would not wake up. And now that they put a heating pad and warm moist towel on it over night. It was like new again and the bruise and knott in my arm went away. I can type again too :) So I am not blaming phlebaotomist in general it was strictly the one i had she also had more compliants that week. So it was her technique that was wrong.

I am sorry. I did not know that you lost feeling. Since you did loose feeling it WAS the phlebotomists fault. She should have withdrew the needle and choose a diferent site and try again. I am sorry that you had such a horrible experience!
