Hi everyone,

I am starting the process for WLS. I am thinking of having surgery in Marshfield, WI. I was wonding if anyone has had surgery in Marshfield and if they have which Doctor they used. I also have the option of having the surgery in Eau Claire, WI. Has anyone seen the doctor there as well. Any help or suggestions are welcomed.

Hi Julie,

Congratulations on considering WLS. I live in Ohio and have been on a 6 month diet as part of the requirements from my insurance provider. My last day of the diet is this Friday! I'm hoping that my approval won't take long and that I have a surgery date within the next month or two.

Best of luck to you!

Sandi

Thank you Sandi,

I have been seeing a diatician for 3 months now and it is not working. I am killing myself working out for 2 hours everyday. I have not lost a pound. So now I have made the steps to start the process. I have talked to my insurance and don't have to do a diet for 6 months. I just have to take their over the phone classes. I have no idea what is instore for me from here on out.

Do they offer classes at the hospital where you'd have the surgery? I'm having my surgery at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland and they have an excellent program. I attend their informational seminars every month.

I guess the good news for you is that you don't have to do a 6 month diet! Whatever you do, don't give up. You know the outcome is going to be amazing.

Best of luck to you.

Sandi

The classes are a requirement from my insurance. They require everyone who is having this surgery to take part in their Health Living classes. I also have to go to the hospital where I am having surgery to take their classes. I go on Thursday for my first informational class.

That's good. You'll meet others who have the same insurance as you too! It's a great way to meet people and ask questions.

You live in WI?

I do live in WI. I am interested to find out if anyone does have the same insurance as I do since I work in Minnesota and my insurance is out of Minnesota. I have Health Partners.

When I was taking Taekwondo, I was very frustrated because I wasn't losing any weight.  What I would suggest is also measuring inches, like around waist, hips, thigh, etc.  I never lost more than 10 pounds in the several years I did martial arts, but I did lose a ton of inches, and I did feel a lot better, my flexibility was a lot better, and my stamina was greatly improved.  It's not just about the weight, it's about your whole health, too. :)  Hang in there with the exercise, though--it'll make you healthier for the surgery itself, recovery easier, and we all need to be exercising before and after the surgery anyway.  :)

Welcome Julie:

I don't know of any surgeons in your area.  Maybe you could look up the hospitals on line and read about their bariatric programs.  If one has the "Bariatric Center of Excellence" honor, I would probably tend to want to use them.
