If you were self pay, how much did you pay and where?
Actually, not as scary as it sounds. My son teaches at a University there. I am going anyway for his wedding. I have been to Korea many times and feel very comfortable in the country. The care is excellent - only in the U.S. do they rush you out of the hospital before you are ready. My surgeon is internationally known as well as being published in U.S. medical journals. He trained at Cleveland Clinic and runs a huge Obesity Center. As far as the 30 days, I am staying in a 4 star hotel and they are giving me a deal and only paying $1000 for the month. For me, it's an opportunity to walk, to heal, to journal, to be by myself, to come to terms with why I have this food addiction and practice positive coping skills. I am very spiritual and believe that the reason I am having my surgery in Korea at this time is because I was meant to "be still and be with God". If I have a complication, I deal with it, pay for it and come home after. But I'm really, for the most part, very relaxed and confident with my decision. Plus I save about 9,0000 (after the hotel).
I paid $12k for an open duodenal switch in Mexico in March with Dr. Ungson. Laparscopic would have been $14k
