How much weight do you lose in 6 months pre op?

Hi Wisconsinites!

Well you enjoying this crapy cold rainy spring?

Well I start my journey on Jan 8, 2009 I weigh in at 317.5 lbs today I weigh in at 277.4 so that is a loss of 41.1 lbs. Is this going to effect my changes of getting the gastric bypass? I am on phentermine since Jan 2009 which my weight management doctor I see each month. It works good but worried once I am off it I will gain the weight back. I know you can't be on this drug long term. I am sure he is going to have me a take a break from it. Not sure if he is going try another one while I am off this one for a month or so. He mention that to me. But says he don't know if it is covered by insurance. Phentermine only cost me $1 a month as that is my copay. I still have May and June left of doctor visits and dietician visits. My last dietician visit is June 9th. If I lose more weight will this effect me getting the gastric bypass?
Also do you get your height measured to make sure it is the right height? I have not had my height done in many years. Can you become shorter while you age or gain weight? I know the last time I had my height it was 5'6 but I feel shorter. So wondering if it is more like 5'5 or shorter. Does Dr Chua office retake your height measurement to be accurate? If not should I ask to have my height retaken?

So how much weight has everyone lost in 6 months preop? Or did you not have to do 6 months?

Thanks!

Wow, 41 pounds pre-op. You're awesome!! I only lost about 20. The weight loss should not affect your eligibility, from what I have read through the last year.

Continued good luck to you!

41lbs - WOW - Great Job! - I lost 10lbs - but, I didn't have to do a 6 month preop diet - Thank God!   I'm glad the phentermine is working for you.  I hope your process goes smoothly!

I'm 5'6 - which was a complete surprise to me!  LOL!  I had been telling people I was 5'7" for years!! HAHA!!  I had to double check - Yep - 5'6" - maybe I shrunk...

You can have the nurses at Dr. Chua's offices retake everything when you go in there for the consult/follow-up.  I remember when I went to Deanna (NUT) she took my height the first time I went in, but just my weight and body fat the remainder of the times I went.  So, if you believe they have the wrong measurements - have them correct it now so it doesn't interfere with your paperwork for getting approved!

Good Luck!!

Maurie

Thanks for the replys. I want to make sure we have the right height and weight. So my bmi and fat percentage is right. When I go to the dietician at aurora sina I don't see anything to measure the height there. I only been weigh on the digital scale and then they use that thingy that measures your bmi and bodyfat. Also when I go to my weight management doctor I get on there digital scale which prints out your bmi and body fat. But also don't see one to  measure height. My family dr has the regular scale and they have one of those ones that are attach to the scale. But they also have you with your shoes on at the family doctor. So the height would not be right unless you take your shoes off right? Well I have some upcoming appts. with dietician, weight mangagement dr and family dr coming in May. So maybe one of them will be able to measure my height. I wont have appt with dr chua until after my last appt with dietician which is June 9th. so then it goes to Dr Chua office.

I only lost 10 lbs.  You are doing great.  The weight loss should not affect your eligiblity for bypass.  They are supposed to submit your paperwork with your starting/initial weight.  Good luck to you and I hope you have continued success.

 -HIJACK- (sorry)

You've lost 45 pounds already! Wow! Does that include the pre-op loss? I didn't know if I should include that on the ticker.

Hey girl!  How are you doing?

Yea, 15 obs of that was from the pre-op diet.  How much did you lose on your pre-op diet?

Hey Jules

I'm feeling pretty good! I lost 10 pounds on the pre-op diet 285 to 275. Now I am at 250.5! I'm not sure if my scale is right, but I will find out on Monday at my 6 week follow up appt.

How are you feeling?

Take care,
Jules

I don't think that losing too much weight will negatively effect your getting the Gastric Bypass. I think they (the insurance company) just wants to know what weight you started at.

I went on Meridia for my 6 month diet and only lost around 7 pounds!

Good luck!
