Are there any doctors near Madison that do this WLS? I am really interested in this one because of other medical issues. I am on long term NSAIDS for my Osteoarthritis, as well as other meds for Rheumitiod arthritis.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Hi Kathy!  I am going through the Dean/St. Mary's clinic.  The Dr.'s there only do Lap Band and RNY.  I know the UW Hospital has Dr.s that also do WLS, just don't know what types.  You can do a physician sear on this site.  Towards the top there is a green bar and right before the word Help is Find a Surgeon.  Best of luck to you.

Hi! I know that the VSG is performed at the Bariatric Institute of Wisconsin, which is in Waukesha. Here is the link: http://www.bariatricwi.com/

Another surgery that allows you to take NSAIDS is the Duodenal Switch, so you might want to look into that one as well!

Good luck!

I have been reading about the DS all day, and think that is the way for me to go. The VSG is not covered by my insurance, but the DS is, and all I have read today is that it is an AWESOME WLS.

I guess my first step is to find a meeting to go to?

Yeah, the DS seems like the best one for me, too. I am still not sure how many DS surgeries that my surgeon has done, I can never get an exact number from the Bariatric Institute. The only way my insurance will pay for my surgery is if I go with this place, so I guess we will see! I only have one more month of supervised diet and then hopefully i will be approved.

There is another dr  named Thomas Chua in Milwaukee who does the DS. If you are willing to travel to Chicago, there are doctors Prachand or Alverdy, who are listed on dsfacts.com, a very good site to visit!

I would definitely do some more research and go to an infomational meeting in the mean time.

Good luck to you!

I am familiar with Dr. Garren. He did my brothers RNY last November. I really do not want the RNY or the Lapband. I have read alot and really think the DS is my very best chance at major success.
I would really prefer to have it right here in Madison, but no program here does the DS.
I guess I need to think on it more.  :(

I'm not trying to jump in and I don't know about insurance coverage.  I am pursuing a ds through Rochester MN.  Not sure if that is out of travel range for you or not.  I happen to work in the Mayo health system in Eau Claire. That's how I ended up there.  Hoping for a date soon.  Good luck to you.
