HI Kimberly,

I wish you luck in your wls. Are you having the RYN if so why did you come to that decision? Have you gone to any of the support meetings? They want me to go to the support meetings. I met with the psychologist yesterday and her 2 concerns were exercise and support. I told her I do have online support at obesity help. I also had appt today for pt to help me get more active.

How long did it take to get to this surgery date? When did you get to finally see Dr Chua was it at the Aurora Sinai? Are you having it done at Aurora Sinai.

Feel free to add me as a friend. Keep in touch!

Hope to hear from you soon. Please keep me updated after your surgery.

my whole decision to do the rny is that for my own personality that i feel the lab band wouldn;t do anything for me.  i wanted this to be permant and get the biggest bang for my pain.  i actually think i went through the process prettu quick.  i forget when i actually went to the seminar but once i got all the information i needed i ran with it.  i had to see the nutrionist four times and the psyc counsler twice.  the nutrionist had me working on portion control and getting rid of soda.  the psyc called me very well adjusted for the horrible crap my peers put me through growing up as the fat kid.  it still cracks me up she called me well adjusted.  she made me come back once just to make sure i really understood what i was getting myself into.  you actually don't see dr chua till you get past the nut and psyc.  and then his clinic is acutally on loomis rd.  he sits there takes in your opinion and runs with it and draws pictures.  he understood why i wanted the rny and then decided on the distal rny with a medium amount of intestine interuption.  i was supposed to see him last week for my pre op but he had something else so i schedualed with someone else.  his other staff is equally amazing.  i am going for surgery downtown at sinai.  i was told he comes in right before surgery to take care of any last minute questions, which means my mom can sit there are talk his ear off about any information i haven't given her.  i never went to the support groups nor were they forced on me due to work.  i work when there support groups are and frankley i've never really been into group stuff.  i like the computer stuff, but i also have an amazing support system in my family and friends and i think that is the key for me right now.  well if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask i'm sure i'll have time on my hands soon when i'm reconvering

Hi Kim,

Thank you for writing back. The only thing the psy dr was concern about support and exercise. She was worried I didn't have enough support. I told her my husband family was trying to talk my husband to talk me out of it. Telling him that it isnt' safe, they know people who had it done and wish they never had it done. They all had nothing but health issues afterwards, etc.. I told him that this is something I need to do for myself. And I have research it, talk to others online. Actually met Lois from the site in person at the seminar. She is a great lady. And meet few others that had the surgery done. Also told him I have one of the best surgeons. And today I got his doctor opinion on the surgeon. As we both have different family doctors. And he told my husband that if I was his patient he would recommend him to me and send me to him. He also said that Aurora Sinai is set up for this program and one the best places to have the surgery as well as Dr Chua. Well I think that had ease my husband mind. I told his sister today she try to tell me about someone they know. I told her everyone is different and this is something I need and want to do. I don't want to be like this rest of my life. I want to be healthy and be able to be here for my husband and my kids.

So what type of testing do they do before surgery? Do they ultrasounds of your gallbladder, stomach, liver, etc... How long after your appt with Dr. Chua did you get approved for surgery? Did it take a long time to get this date?

Good luck I know the time is coming up quickly now.

when it comes to those who don't want you to have surgery i say screw em if they can't jump on board than they aren't needed.  i truley is a personal decision that if you need to make for yourself, it just helps when you have support. my grandmother keeps telling me stories about her sister who had gastric bypass ages ago and all her health issues now.  its like seriously the surgery changes so much on a daily basis that it only gets better.    yes sinai is a bariatric excelence program which means its really freaking good.  i've done a ton of research online.  i actually think i annoyed the nut and psyc person a bit because i really had no questions by the time i got to them.  i havent met a whole bunch of people with the surgery but someone my mom worked with had a few years ago and i have all her contact info for after the surgery when i freak out.  the testing before the surgery is oh so much fun.  gee i wish i could do it again.  i had two days of pre-op testing.  i had to go to sinai for upper gi testing.  the night before you eat fat free and nothing to eat or drink after midnight.  you get to drink this fizzy stuff that reminded me of pop rocks and than barium that taste like thick nasty chalk.  then you get to see what your stomach looks like.  that was kinda cool.  they also xray your chest and do an ultrasound of your galbladder oh and they draw a ton of blood.  then i had to go to the loomis rd clinic for the results of my pre-op and then they retook your history and your family history.  i got aprroved for surgery from my insurance in two weeks.  i could have had the surgery in march actually weeks after getting approved.  but i choose the date i did because my mom goes on spring break the following day.  since i'm young and live alone i wanted to make sure i had someone i could call.  well er is done recording so now i must go watch it as it is the final episode.

My favorite show I have recorded on dvr. Also can see it online in a day or so as well. I will miss ER it was a great show. I remember seeing the bariatric surgerys on cable before but now I can't find them on cable anymore. I have watch a few online though.

Well have a good night and will praying for you that all goes well for you.
