This is my second time trying to get Gastric Bypass, but this time around I have done my research for getting insurance that covered Gastric Bypass. The first time was 5 years ago and after all the pre-op examinations I was denied, then was denied 4 times through appeals.  Now I have UHC through my wife's work and the only prerequisite is that your bmi is over 40 and mine is over 50.  I am getting the procedure done by Dr. James Burhop at the Bariatric Institute of Wisconsin.  I am getting the roux-en-y procedure done laproscopically.  I have my dietician consult group meeting tomorrow night, then next week wed the 17th I have my physical therapy evaluation, and on friday the 19th I have my brachospasm eval, ekg, lab work, and psych test.  Then once that is all done it will get submitted to the insurance company.  Then comes the ever such fun fun fun times of keeping on the insurance company until they approve my surgery.  It would be nice if I could get the surgery done by the end of Jan / early Feb.  We shall see what happens with it though.

The wait is the hardest part.  I have UHC as well.  But actually, the approval after all the tests and eval were submitted for final approval took less than a week for me.  My BMI was at 61.  I had my RNY on Dec 2 and am doing very well so far.  I am sure that you will soon be on your way to the slimmer end of the pool!
