I am in the process... no surgery date set yet, I'm still working on the pre-requisites my insurance company requires.  My doctor will be Dr. Engstrand of the Bariatric Institute.

Here is the website:  http://www.bariatricwi.com/?gclid=CObj46vy0ZMCFQopIgodDAZ0jw

They have a great reputation.  I have no fears about it.

I have seen all the doctors at BWI! I love them! I had lapband and then had it taken out! I'm going in for my preop testing in Sept for RNY.  They are great there! I always left with a smile!!!  Dr. Chiang has done many of my friends and I personally see Dr. Burhop. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to PM me.

I am a patient of Dr. Chiang's at the Bariatric Institute of Wisconsin. I am very happy with my doctor and the staff there. I have just completed my pre ops and my records were sent into my insurance company for approval.  They said it shouldn't take too long and then they will schedule my surgery. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

I just had my surgery done with Dr. Chaing on July 9th.  Between the time I started the diet and now, I have lost 24 pounds.

I have water retention issues, degenerative disc disease (whcih makes any other exercise excep****er walking and swimming difficult), sleep apnea, bad knees, etc.  I read your blog and any other doctor except these doctors blame everything on your weight which may or may not be the case.

I wish you good luck--drink the juice while you are on the protein shakes.  I forgot the juice for a couple of days and I was unbelieveably stopped up.

I just had my surgery on July 9th.  I am on the road to recovery.

My surgeon was Dr. Manfred Chaing.  He is very soft spoken but knows what he is doing and does not judge you on your weight (I have battled my weight for many years and have experienced too many doctors who think you are some kind of idiot because you can't control your weight--a very refreshing change).  These are doctors that understand the problems we face.

My approval process went smoothly.  I first went to see Dr. Chaing on January 31st and got approved on June 4th.  The secret was making the appointments the day after I left his ofice because the quicker your tests are done the quicker the approval can be sent in.

My journey found some health issues that I never knew about (low iron, sleep apnea).  They are very thorough and feel if another specialist is necessary they won't hesitate to let you know.  They find thinks your PCP probably would never look for.

I would recommend them highly.

Be prepared to do ALL the leg work for them, and make sure you aware of exactly who has a medical degree and doesn't .  All of the places can be misleading, is the person you are talking with a real nurse or a sales representative?  The Physicians are great, but then after all they are the medical professionals.

Hello, I also am having the surgery with Dr. Engstrand, no date set,2 more appt.'s with my 6 month supervised diet, and then it goes for approval. I am very happy and comfortable with the biw, I never met such a nice dr. before, the whole crew there is understanding, and they want those ?'s brought to there attention to help out in any way they can. I love the fact they are soo thourough with there stuff, they make sure you have everything you need for during the process of the journey many of us are taking, I also love the fact that it took over an hr. in the office for the first actual visit, I went to another surgeon b4 going to dr. engstrand, and i wasn't in his office for more than 5 min. and i only had one option, the open rny, i didn't want to settle for the open, and also he said it was safer doing the open procedure, NOT!! so once i came to the biw the first impression i got was that they cared about US, the People who have always struggled with our weight, and the people who have struggled with medical issues following the weight, and the disgriminations we get from people, including dr's. because of our weight.  I knew i wanted to study and follow my research for this surgery, due to it being a very big surgery, and when I walked into that office and he asked ME what surgery I was thinking about having, and when I told him I wanted the ds, he looked at me and honestly said, i believe that is the best choice for you... and to know that in there history they have not had any fatalities ever, reasured me even more. I am scared because of it being such a major surgery, but I am excited to start my life with my new TOOL to help me gain my life back, the one i had yrs ago, only to know I have my beautiful boys, and my husband to root me on, to be at my side to help me on this journey so I can full fill the rest of my life healthy with them. I have been trying to get this for 7yrs, and I am finally so close to recieving a second chance of a life time..
