I can hear a pin drop .....
I can hear a pin drop in this forum! Well.. hmmm... 12 days left before my surgery pre op work ups this Thursday. Reality is starting to kick in .. along with nerves, followed by days of calm and peace.
What a ride!
So what is everyones favorite type of exersize? I'm glad summer is coming b/c I can get outside.. but I know I am going to have to mix it up when summer comes back around. How many of you actually belong to a gym?
Hey Denise! Calm those fears! The best is yet to come! Funny you should mention exercise, since the weather around here sucks lately! I don't belong to a gym because our 2 high schools received HUGE grants for fitness rooms, and they are open to the public-FREE! Best of all, the equipment beats any of the crap the YMCA has! So, I do that stuff in the winter, but now that summer is here, I'm back to training for some 5 &10K's, triathlons, duathlons, and a half marathon. When I started after surgery, it began with walking. When I got bored with that, I did swimnastics and swimming. Mix that up with some biking, some hiking, some weightlifting...You name it! Whatever I had to do to keep myself occupied and curb boredom. I now find great satisfaction in running. I lose myself in thought, song and whatever else. It's fun to be running along and suddenly forget how you got there! It clears my mind and that's when I feel my best. Try a bunch of things (more than once) and see what excites you! Mix it up! When I did, I found more friends to do these things with and keep me focused and motivated!
damn girl.. you are ambitious!!! I hope I feel as energized as you and CC do when I shed some severe poundage!!! I worry about what is going to happen in the winter. I am starting this journey in the spring, weather is beautiful, plenty of reasons to get outside.. but when winter comes I'll have to find other ways to occupy myself. The treadmill in my basement doesn't exactly scream fun and excitiement!!!!
I know about the boring treamill stuff! I try to mix it up in winter and lift arm weights while walking, or push the incline to the max. I also do the side step walk and backwards walk on it. That cuts the boredom a bit, and actually burns more calories too! I'm lucky to be in Texas right now, and could go running this morning. It's a great change of scenery and temperatures!
I can't believe how close it is Denise!! I was just thinking about your surgery this morning.
As far as exercise....right now I'm training for my first 5K. It's the 26th of this month and I'm completely excited. I'm pretty new to running but I've found a new passion. I can't believe how quickly you can progress at it...I started out only being able to run for maybe 5 minutes before I had to walk...and now can go for 50 minutes! Not to mention how much my dog loves it.
I still do my Tae-bo...it is my first exercise love and probably always will be. I'm hitting up Skip for the new series that just came out. I also lift weights and bike when the weathers not crap. I run 3 days a week...Tae-bo the other two...and lift weights on my running days because my arms are not already blown from Tae-bo.
I think the ticket is to find something you love to do....and then do it. Than you can add other stuff to fill in the gaps.
I don't belong to a gym..in spite of one being 2 blocks away. I like my solitude and am not much of a joiner. Not to mention the cost!! Why bother when you can get all you need on your own and not pay for it?
Hey you!! How have you been?? You really have ramped the running! It seems to be the exersize of choice by many. I have always despised running.. even in my younger thinner years!!! My love when I was younger was aerobics..so I need to find a new aerobics. I still haev my tae bo tape.. I just need to get it out of my head that Mr. Billy Banks is trying to kill me!! I can't believe its this close either... 11 days.... today I go in for all of my pre op tests and meetings.. I think reality may set in today... we will see. :-)
take care girl, and talk soon!!!!
Hi Denise,
Congrats on your up coming surgery. It is a Ride of a lifetime. I just thought I would take a minute and answer some of the questions you posted. I do belong to a gym, but am ashamed to say I haven't been in 2 months. We moved and then I got strep throat followed by pneumonia. Oh then a popped rib. So anyway, back to the subject, I do enjoy going to the gym. I never use to... but now that I can actually do the machines it really makes me feel good about myself. That I took the time to do that for me. Also, now that the weather is nice, I'm able to play outside with my almost 3 yr more. I can actually run with him as he rides his bike. I have never been able to do that.
Well anyway, the next 11 days will go by so fast. Good luck to you.
Chris
Hello Denise
How did the testing go? I went in yesterday and finally Dr. Wasco sat down and talked with me. He is a very nice doctor. Now that he is back on track he has assured me things will move faster. He was suppose to dictate the letter to the insurance yesterday have it transcribed today and faxed ASAP no later than close of business friday.
He discussed with me doing the Endoluminal Surgery which is stage 1 then waiting 6 weeks and coming back in and doing stage 2 a RNY or VSG. I am not into waiting another 6 weeks. However, my alternative is an open RNY or VSG (He says he won't know which till he gets in there.)
He is still not sure how all of this will work but he is submitting to insurance for all case scenarios and seeing which one they approve. Hopefully they will make the decision I won't have to.
So basically I don't know anymore than I did before. But know I am one step closer.
Hallelujah!!!
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers
