How long did you take off from work to have your RNY?  What type of job was it? I work as a receptionist so I can basically sit on my butt all day (with some moving around) so I was looking to see what a "norm" would be off of work.

I had surgery on a Wednesday and went back on the following Friday.  So about a week and a half.  But I'm very part time..like twice a week..and I worked at the desk (reception work) for a couple of weeks after I went back.  I didn't have much pain...just very very tired.

My surgery was on March 4th and I'm taking 6 weeks off, primarily because I have the time to take and because I want to focus on healing fully. Part of my job involves travel (driving around the state) and I wanted to be past the major issues before I went back. I'm currently 11 days post-op and find that most of my day is spent trying to manage my meals, and getting in enough water and protein. Not to mention, I was on my pain meds almost constantly for the first week or so, and they made me very sleepy.

Hi..        I had surgery in Oct. and took 3 weeks off. I work on my feet in a busy Newborn Intensive Care Unit. I was very tired and work 12 hour shifts. I actually was pushing it. I wish I would have stayed home 4-5 weeks. Good Luck and take whatever time you need. I know people that work at an office job in my hospital that only took off 2 weeks,  they were o.k with that. Hi Kate,  I had my surgery on July 25th last year and was gone from work for 6 weeks.  I had only wanted to be gone for 4 weeks, but my surgeon said I wsan't getting in enough protein in so I had to make sure it was up to the 60 grams a day before he would let me go back.   My job is an office job with not to much lifting, but I'm glad I was home for the 6 weeks. It gave me the time I needed to get this protein thing figured out.   Good Luck to you. Chris

I work a desk job @ a bank so really the only strenuous part of my day is loading paper in the copier or fax LOL. I had surgery on a Tuesday and was back to work not the next Monday but the next.  So almost 2 weeks off.  Was tired in the beginning, but I just couldn't miss that much because I really didn't have somone backing me up.  So it's do-able @ 2 weeks but I would have prefered 3.

I work as an Executive Assistant and had my surgery on February 25th.  I will be going back to work on Monday, March 24th and don't feel I should be.  The main reason I am is because the temp they hired to cover for me is going to Hawaii with her boyfriend next week and everyone I work with/for really would like me back.  I am very nausous most of the time and even got sick this morning .  But I don't like to be a wimp.   For the first few days after coming home, I had A LOT of shoulder pain due to the anesthesia so there would have been no way I was ready to go back that soon.   Just listen to your body and your doctor.  Take as much time as you can.   Becky
