Pre-op preparation suggestions?

Ok.. so I am pre-op and my surgery isnt scheduled until April 28th,.  It was scheduled 2 weeks ago and people have told me "oh the time will fly by!"  Ok.. first let me be the one to say ... like hell the time flies by!!  LOL Every day drags and it is only compounded by the fact that I think about it all time time. My weight, my surgery, food, what I can have, what I can't have, when i can have my next meal, staying on schedule...blah blah blah.  So I have a month and a half left so I need to think of other things, like getting perpared.  It doesn't pay for me to pack a month in advance.. I'll do that a week in advance But what else can I do?  From the bariatric bible I received from my surgeons office, they don't seem to do the protein shake diet for their post ops, but I think I should get some just in case. Does anyone have an recommendations?  What about vitamines and supplements? Suggestions?  I am thinking I can get a stock up on some of these items... but am unsure exactly what I will need.  I am not a fan of pureed foods.. so maybe I will get some baby food and test out the good ones. lol. anyway... for fear that this will get VERY long... if anyone has suggestions of things I can do to prepare and get my mind off of everything else (like the slow moving time!)  I would welcome it!

On another board they suggest spring cleaning your house   Not my favorite thing but you won't be able to really clean, clean after your surgery for a while.  And the dirt will glare and laugh at you when you can't do it you know that.  So it kinda sounds like a good idea.  Wash the windows.  Spray down the outside of the house get rid of all the snow gunk.   Of course I need to go outside and clean up after the dog.  Every dog in the neighborhood has come and made a contribution here of one sort or another.  Now that I don't have to wear hip boots to do it.   I actually see green in my front yard today for the first time in seems like forever!!!!

Ahh yes... spring cleaning.. true true. I love spring cleaning when I can toss open the windows and turn up the music.. oh and put the kids to work too.. hee hee. They HATE spring cleaning! tee hee I know what you mean about finally seeing your yard.. I was excited to see grass today too!! As soon as this snow is gone I will begin landscaping. That was my initial plan for this year.. atleast get the front of the house done before I won't be able to. Oh.. and I was lmao when I read what you wrote "the dirt will glare and laugh at you"  soo true!!!

How are you coming with your progress? Have you heard anything further? Where are you in your progress now?

Done with my group therapy class saw the nut this month need to see her 1 more time on  April  3 Monday I go see Dr. Groh.  for my re-evaluation.   After he does this re-eval I am going to ask them to start working on my insurance approval  cause my primary does not require the weight loss.   So time will tell and I am chomping at the bit to get things going.  I agree time is not going fast.

If you don't already exercise...start.  Get a program going and make yourself as strong as possible before surgery..it'll help with the bounce back. As far as protein goes...do you have a GNC?  I get the unflavored 100% Whey Protein in the red bag.  It actually is unflavored unlike many others I've tried.  I mix it with skim milk and half a banana or peanut butter.  You can also mix it with stuff to up your protein.  It has 21 grams per scoop.  Watch the baby food and make sure there's not much sugar in it.  For vitamins I take two Flintstones Multi a day, two calcium Cit w/ D, and a sub lingual B-12...I do take Biotin as well but it hasn't done a damn thing to help the hairloss..but it is supposed to help with the regrowth.  Clean your house, wash your car...make food for the family, read, walk, anything to make you not think....LOL.

I can recommend trying the sampler pack of vitamins available at Bariatric advantage.com who also carry a sample pack of proteins. I also recommend trying out the Bariatriceating.com website, as they have an awesome sample pack as well, and Susan Maria (the owner of the company) had WLS several years ago and only sells stuff she uses regularly herself. If you have a family, cook up some meals to throw in the freezer that they can just heat up. Also, check to see if you can buy or borrow a shower seat and/or toilet riser as they really come in handy during those painful first couple weeks (I had a LAP hysterectomy and discovered this the hard way) OUCH! Also, start walking or exercising as it helps make recovery faster. Stock up on Audio books or good movies for when you feel punk, and remind the family that you will be off the chore line. They will need a list, as they will NOT pick up the slack without it unless you have them better trained than mine. LOL! These are just a few suggestions from a surgery veteran. Hope the time goes as quickly as possible for you. Take care of you.
