We need to get this board moving! Tell us 5 things about you!
Lon has his surgery scheduled, finally. Aug. 11. He's having the bypass at Marshfield Clinic. Dr Wengert will be doing the surgery. Lon weighs in at 481#, and he's hoping the total weight loss will be 75- 80 %. This is a realistic goal, and he knows that he has to work at it. We have such great support through the bariatric team at the Marshfield Clinic, and we're optimistic about the outcome.

No they didn't put me on a liquid diet because I'm not having the lapband. So how are you doing? How much have you lose, one of my co-worker had the lapband done b y Dr. Chaing for free, because he was doing some kind of study and today she went to get her band adjusted and she said that now food is harder to get down. Are you still on liquid or are you eating what you want?
I had RNY with a BMI of over 60 so that is why I had to be on the full liquid.
I just got home from my 2 week follow up and between June 18th (the day I started the liquid diet and today), I lost 34 pounds. That is almost a pound a day. I had a lot of fluids with the IVs, plus the surgical gases which bloat you up. Additionally, I ran fevers in the hospital and could not pee on my own for 4 days. I'm happy with the loss after all that.
I have now graduated to the puree diet for 1 week and then soft foods and then normal. I see the nurse in 4 weeks, the dietitican the day after that, and Dr. Chaing in 2 months.
I went in with the thought of the lapband but with my BMI, he recommended the RNY which I decided to go with. He asked me about the Bipancreatic-duodendial switch but 10% more weight loss wasn't worth the effects to me so I went with the RNY.

Hi Sylvia, goo job on the 34lbs lost. They did but me on sof diet with the protein drinks for 2 weeks, my insurance company wanted to see if I could stick with it. I was all set to have the lapband but then the Dr and I had a heart to heart and because my blood pressure, back and knees were so bad I needed a major weight lost and the band to get the 100 or so pounds off it would have taken me about 1 year, so I'm going for my cut. What is Bipancreatic-duodenidal?
I tried the Carnation Instant Breakfast and mixed it with skim milk and ice it was a WINNER.

My husband is waiting for his surgery date.
Five things about me: I'm a Wisconsin native, married twice, 2nd time to the man of my dreams.
Together we have 6 sons, all adults ranging in ages from 19 - 27, I'm fat, but not fat enough to have the bariatric surgery. I am supporting my hubby in this endeavour. We hope to get a new lease on life soon. We would love to hear from people who are new to the process as well as veteran's of the procedure. This change is both scary and exciting. .
I am 49 yrs young, and hubby is 48, with many more good years to come. I think thething we're looking forward to the most is to be able to walk and take hikes together. These are things that we've never done together. I miss the hiking especially. He swims at the YMCA when he can, alot of times there are wee ones taking lessons and using thre water slides, so it makes it difficult to do laps.

Welcome to the board and great that you're supporting your husband. Good Luck to him. Support is everything.
Keep us posted as to where he is in the process.
I'm 9 months post op and have no regrets.
I started with a BMI of 41 and it's now 22. I have never felt better.
I've added 12 years to my life per my health risk assessment screening. What more could I ask for.
