WPS Insurance

Please call WPS and ask about your benefits again.  Better yet, get their exclusions in writing if you haven't already. I had ZERO problems with WPS paying for any of my nutrition appointments, follow-up visits for supervised weight loss with my physician, or any of the other requirements.  Granted, I am a state employee and not a county employee, but if they pay for WLS, I imagine that their other benefits are also similar. It is possible that you've been given misinformation or misunderstood something.  Before you get really discouraged, make sure you are 100% sure that you know exactly what your insurance will/won't cover. The one thing that I did have to pay for out-of-pocket was the weight loss medication, which my physician recommended I stop after about six weeks due to adverse side-effects.  That was a financial break for me since the meds were $100-200/mo if I remember correctly. I did not have to take a special "program" to satisfy the requirements for supervised weight loss.  Basically I met with my nutritionist and the doctor stopped by her office and checked in with me about my progress.  It was very informal. Please keep in mind that even if you end up needing to pay out of pocket, it will be well worth it.  I imagine if someone offered to wave a magic wand and make you thin for $1000, you'd be out checking couch cushions for spare change.  WLS is sort of like a magic wand -- it's our best hope for ever permanently losing weight.  It is worth the fight.  Hang in there! My life has changed tremendously in the past year with the loss of 160 lbs.  It is only going to get better.  A year from now you'll be marveling at your own progress.  Keep the faith ... Tess

Thanks LessofTess and Grammazuzu.... I found out today that my doctor supervised weight loss program will be covered because it is a prerequisite to WLS.  I am so HAPPY... HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!  I don't know about my nutrition class is covered but that's only one class and I will gladly pay out of my pocket considering all the other tests, etc. that will be covered by insurance.

I'm thinking that the insurance for state employees is probably similar for county employees too.  So maybe my nutrition class will also be covered because it is also a prerequisite for the surgery.

Boy I feel like a weight (no pun intended) has been lifted.  I was worried about all of this.

Thanks for all of your input.
