Hi ikagram: I have never heard of anyone failing apsych eval, but I just noticed who your surgeon is. Perhaps you should try another clinic, such as the one in Green Bay or St Luke's in Milwaukee. In this case, I think your surgeon needs a psych eval. I would know - I was a patiet of his for 3 years. I would be happy to share my horror story with you. This may be a blessing in disguise - it may force you to see a surgeon who is more experienced, who is not ruse, who has compassion and most of all will stand behind his work. Dr Wasco always told me he would stand behind his work, but as my complications with the surgery became more difficult that is exactly where he stood - Hiding somewhere behind the solution. If you would like more details, please advise. I have complete documentation of everything.
Who did your psch eval?? What complications did your have? I have only talked to Wasco for about 5 min total every time I see him he is running over an hour behind and seems very rushed.
I don't know if my insurance (medicare) will cover anywhere else. It has to be a center for excellence. Have you gone to another surgeon. My surgery would be a revision.
I have had all the pre op tests like stress test, echo cardiagram, edg and upper gi the problem with waiting or going elsewhere is I would have to do it all over again and again I don't know if my insurance would cover it.
I had my surgery with Dr. Georgen (Wasco's partner). When I had my psych eval with Dr. Groh, he said that they do sometimes ask patients to wait to have surgery if something shows up on their psych eval to say that they may struggle more with the mental stress of all the changes you go through with surgery. That may be a mental illness, lack of social support, lack of coping resources. I am someone who has been fortunate enough to have not suffered from a mental illness and I can say that it is a very stressful thing to go through this surgery and earlier on, I had some regrets- mostly because as much as you can read, research, and prepare for surgery, it doesn't compare to actually going through it. I'm doing fine now and have been very successful in my weight loss but it is still not easy. The surgeon's want people to be successful. Not so say that you would not be. I'm sure this must feel like a blow, but I had to wait 6 months to have surgery too for other reasons. If you want it bad enough, it will happen. And I had absolutely no complications or any problems with Dr. Georgen and his staff- they have been wonderful. Maybe you could request Dr. Georgen instead of Wasco. Good luck.
