My insurance has a rider that disallows any kind of weight loss surgery.  I am at the point I'm willing to take out a loan.  I see surgery in Mexico is 1/2 the price as here.  Has anyone considered or had surgery done there?

Good luck. I have heard very good things about surgery in Mexico.  Also, you are treated very well post op. I think it's a great option for people who get denied. Maybe post on the entire states forum, not just Wisconsin.  I'm sure there's many out there that have gone this route.  Good Luck and keep on fighting.                                   Shari Oak Creek, WI

I have very different feelings about surgery there.  My doctor usually ends up treating people who had their surgery in Mexico for infections and post-op problems.  Also, if you experience problems, your insurance will probably not cover any post-op care either. I wouldn't recommend it and neither would my doc.  Although my surgery was paid for by insurance, with the success I've had, I would take out the loan and have it done here, SAFELY.  Good luck with your decision, but remember, there's only one YOU!

Hi there, I was in the same situation as you. I decided to head to Mexico for my surgery too. I had a great experience while there. I don't know which surgery your looking into. I had the VSG. One reason I choice it is because there is not alot of after care involved and usually not many problems afterwards. There are pluses and minuses to going to Mexico and if you should develop problems after you could have a hard time with the insurance paying to help. I did call my company and found out if I did - they would treat it and it would not be a problem. If you want to know more about my experience please feel free to pm me. Wishing you well, Cathy
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Sorry, for butting in as I am usually a regular on the IL board. But, I am here in the Dells for Thanksgiving so I am in WI at the moment.

I would really think long, hard and research for a good doctor in MX. Before you decide on going there read Stalker Val's (mainly posts on the main forum) profile before having surgery there. She had an experience from hell and she continues with numerous issues still. There is a forum for persons that are interested in surgery from below the border.  Christine
