Just finally starting

After many many years of debating I've finally take the step towards getting my weight back to where it should be. Now I've called my insurance (BadgeCare/Group Health HMO) and have talked with someone about doing the surgery.  She told me that I need to do the 6 months with the dietian and phsyc eval.  Now would this be my "approval"?   I am in the morbidly obese catergory (down to 321 from 340 but still too heavy). Anyone else up in the Rice Lake area on here?  What about clients of Dr. Pitchford?

Nope, sorry that's not your approval.  The insurance has a list of required things for you to do and after those are done, your doctor sends them in for approval and the insurance company goes over your files and decides to approve or deny you for surgery.

Thank you - I figured that out after I posted.  Amazing what you find digging around further.   It's okay though - I'm just glad to finally be getting this ball rollin.

Hi Kate,

It took me several years of to make the decision for WLS.  Then when I finally got my head to a place where I knew it was the right decision I got hit with the 6 month stuff.  It seemed like it would be FOREVER before I could even ask for insurance pre-approval, but I have to tell you it flew by!!!  I had my surgery with Dr. Pitchford on Tuesday, and was back home in Cumberland on Friday. If you need any advice just let me know.   Joni
