I got my surgery date with dr. Chiang  it July 30th. I am so excited. I am kind of feeling overwhelmed right now I am not sure what I need to get ready before surgery. Dose anyone have any advice?

WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!  Congratulations!  You aren't very far away now!  It's going to fly by!  Things to get ready?  Do you mean what to bring with you?  My best advice....chapstick for the first couple days.  I brought a book with me, but didn't really read it with the pain meds, etc.  and I felt better up and walking around, so wasn't in my room much.  The gas built up in between my shoulder blades really bad.  Didn't hurt as long as I was walking.

Congratulations! Your date is so close already, how did you do that? lol The only thing I can say about going to the hospital is bring chapstick and wear loose clothing so your ride home is comfy. Anything else I took never got used! Except I took my own pillow and was extremely happy I did.  Best wishes for a safe surgery! Cheryl

Hello From Franklin Wisconsin,  My doctor is in your program Dr Burhop and my surgery is July 25th 2007.  May I have seen you at one of the support groups at Elmbrook?  My name is Pam I am 5'4" 308 lbs, was 320 lbs (but the pre-op diet is taking care of that LOL), highest weight 340 lbs.  You will have 1 or 2 weeks (depending on your BMI if over 49 2 weeks if under 1 week) on the pre-op diet which is liquid protein drinks/shakes, juice 3/4 cup or whatever they tell you, sugar free jello, popcicles, broth and thats about it.  I am on day 4 as we speak and days 1 thru 3 were not a picnic I'll tell you that but it has gotten better each day and I am hoping for the best day ever today.  Congrats on getting your date...Please let me know if I can be of any help whatsoever (although we are in almost the same boat I just maybe a few days earlier, literially LOL).  Please keep in touch and I will do that same....Pam

Hi pam, I think I sat next to you at the group dietary meeting? I start my pre op diet on the 17th and my fiance is going to do it with me just to be nice. To answer the question before reply, I am a self pay and thats how I got in so fast, no insurance to deal with. Pam good luck with your surgery If you can please keep me updated so I no what to expect going in for mine.
