Hi, I'm pretty new here.  Had my first consult with surgeon 6/18/07.  I have multiple GI issues that have to be addressed b4 I can have surgery.  And I found out today that because of this, I'm not a candidate for the RNY.  I can however, still have the LapBand.  Its not my first choice but I'm grateful that at least I'm being considered for that.  Anyone else have anything similar?  Or know Dr. Prewitt?  Just wondering how long the approval process takes once the ball gets rolling.  I would appreciate any input.  Or anyone that wants to be added as my friend!  We're all in this together, right? Thanks, Vivian

Hi Vivian! There are a couple of people who post on this site who had Dr. Prewitt, so hopefully you'll get some feedback from them- I cannot give advice about Lapband in lew of RNY. BUT, I want to wish you well during this process. I look forward to hearing that you are approved very soon!

Thanks Joelle.  And I'll be thinking of you and praying for you tomorrow!  What time is your surgery scheduled?  Did I read somewhere that you are a NP?  I'm an RN.  Keep us posted on your progress!!

Hi Vivian, Don't be disappointed about being qualified for the Lap Band.  I had the VBG (non-adjustable band) 3 years ago and have had Incredible success!  As my doctor says, the success of your surgery depends completely upon the work and continued compliance to changing your lifestyle forever.  It is a great system and has proven very successful!  As with any bariatric surgery, there are always ways to sabotage them.  I know a few RNY as well as Banders that lost the weight, then went back to their old habits and regained.  Make up your mind to be strong and adhere to the rules!  Good things are coming to you!  Prepare yourself for an entirely new and wonderfully healthy life! Hi Vivian, I just wanted to wish you well on your journey. I don't have any advise at all but wanted to wish you well. Hugs Cathy
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Hi Kathy, Thanks for the well wishes.  I'm at the "waiting game" stage of things right now and its making me crazy.  But that's all part of the process I suppose. Vivian
