Hello All, Has anyone found a protein supplement they actually like? I have tried some from Bariatric Eating.com. The milk based ones are always chalky and they smell. I was hopeful for "Nectar" it mixes clear and you can mix it with Crystal Lite etc to change the flavor. It actually went down o****il I had a whiff of it - then I was done. Today I tried Bolthouse Farms Protein Power ( It think that is what it is called) it was cafe mocha - I drank the whole thing (16 oz)- it was not lumpy, didn't smell and went down smooth, it had 19 grams of protein - unfortunately it also had 58 grams of carbs even though it says no sugar added - the calories were high at 354. The other problem was that it had caffeine (Which I have been off of since December) - so I had plenty of energy to mow the lawn. I;ll let you know if I can sleep tonight . The dietician said I should make SF Carnation Instant breakfast with a scoop of nonfat dry milk powder. The only thing there is the only flavor I have been able to find is chocolate. I was also considering HMR Shakes - but they are rather expensive. I would love your help. Thanks so much!! Lori

The Bolthouse Farms Protein sounds like it's made for body builders and people who are trying to put ON weight. 58 gr of carbs and 354 calories is really quite high. You might want to check with your nut and see if he/she thinks it would be a good choice. I've tried several of the Nectar proteins ( I bought a sampler pack of them) and some I like, some I don't. I did learn that they should be stirred or lightly shaken - not whirred in the magic bullet or they get WAY too foamy! I liked the tealicous (sp?) especially when I mixed it with some peach flavored sf drink mix. My nut suggested the SF carnation instant breakfast w/ a scoop of dry milk and a scoop of Beneprotein. Has something like 25 or 28 gr. of protein when made with skim milk. I haven't tried it yet - but sounds promising as I like the Carnation Instant Breakfast. I also like the low carb slimfast RTD. I got a sample from my nut and really liked it. I think it has 16 gr. protein. I've collected quite a few protein samples to try. I'm going to use some of them during my pre-op liquid diet, but plan on saving most of them for after surgery. I keep reading that tastes change after surgery, so I guess I'll decide what I like then! lol!

I haven't tried any protein shakes/powders yet but have been asking around to find some good ones. A couple of weight lifters/health nuts i know at work tell me that EAS brand is good. They have protein powder in different flavors that can be made into shakes or flavorless kinds that can be added into other things like SF Carnation. They are very low in calories, carbs, and fat and quite high in protein- like 20g. I haven't tried them myself yet- they are going to bring some samples in for me to try. They said your best bet is to order on line - GNC doesn't carry it. I've had 2 varieties of the Bolthouse Farms drinks before but they are definitely not diet-conscious. I think that you would probably dump on those post-surgery.

I bought EAS Vanilla flavored 100% Whey Protein at Sam's Club.  It's pretty good... but I bought it to mix into Carnation Instant breakfast.  My 2 week liquid pre op diet was this.. as well as 2 week post op liquid diet. I tried the EAS plain... and it was ok.. but better when you jazz it up a bit with SF flavored syrup (I have SF Davinci Caramel). I tried the Nectar Tea one.. and almost puked... probably because the scent.  I have some other flavors but haven't tried them yet. I plan on purchasing Unjury next.  The unflavored kind in particular... therefore I can sneak it into stuff when I start my puree and soft foods diet pretty soon.
