Good Morning All, Please stand up and join me in the happy dance !! I talked to my surgeon on Friday and he said June 5th!!! Of course he said that he could change his mind early this week - but it would for sure be that week. I can hardly wait. I have a concern tho - he is not putting me on a liquid diet, or a bowel cleanse before surgery - it sounds like this is standard procedure. He said that the only time a bowel cleanse is neccessary is when there is surgery on the colon. He also said there is no "proof" that a liquid diet does anything to help shrink the liver. Has any one else heard of this? I am thinking of doing my own high protein liquids for the next 2 weeks - what do you think? Thanks for your input and the dance party! Lori

Congrats on getting a date. I had my surgery 6 months ago here in Stevens Point with Dr. Selwyn. I did NOT have to do the cleanse or a liquid diet either. I think that is just up to the Dr's personal preference. Nothing to be concerned with. The liquid diet's purpose is to shrink the liver to make surgery a bit easier. That is usually required of people that are extremely morbidly obese from what I know. I was "only"...lol...125 pounds overweight for my surgery, therefore it wasn't required of me. But we have had people in our support grooup that were 200+ pounds overweightthat did do it.

I didn't have a liquid or cleansing before surgery. My surgeon had me on a high protien no carb for 4 weeks before. Lost 18 pounds during it. Have faith in your surgeon.

Hi Lori , Congrats on your date . i know when i got my date i was so so excited . as far as the liquid diet , it depends on the surgeon . i only had to lose 82 pounds according to my dr. he put me on the liquid diet ( he believes it shrinks the liver ) . My surgeon has done hundreds and hundeds of these procedures . not sure how many your dr has done!!!! all depends on surgeon and their experiences . gl to you , enjoy the next few weeks as best you can cuz your life as you know it is about to change like you wouldnt believe ... for the great that is .

WOW LORI! June is going to be here soon! I am very happy for you and will join you in the happy dance ! I have to be on a 4 week protein/veggies/fruit only diet for my July 3 surgery. This also consists of no snacks, no grazing, no alcohol, no caffeine. The surgeon said it is to shrink the liver by getting rid of the fatty deposits that are caused by fat and carbs. I guess this is more important if it is being done lap. I am 150# overweight and I am having it done lap. Good for you for doing it on your own- it will kick start your weight loss!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

WOOOOOOOOOO WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! CONGRATULATIONS Lori! What a WONDERFUL feeling! June 5th is going to be here in NO time, you'll be a LOSER before you know it! My surgeon has been doing this for 21 years and put me on the Atkins diet for 6 weeks to lose 15-20 lbs before surgery. He doesn't do the liquid diet, but does do the bowel cleanse. It all depends on the surgeon and what they have done in the past and had success with. My surgeon did say the Atkins diet would shrink my liver and make the surgery easier for him to perform and for me to heal. Like I said...all surgeons are different. Again....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!! I'm soooo happy for you! Pam
