Another QOTD
I'm assuming everyone gives up soda before surgery - I'm just wondering when? I'm 6 weeks from my surgery and am already grumpy as all heck because I'm not smoking. The thought of giving up soda throws me into another temper tantrum - lol! Just trying to figure out when it's a good idea to wean myself off of it!
Ask your surgeon. I'm seven months post-op and any carbonation, even the flat kind, makes me sick. I gave up caffeine a week or two before surgery thinking I could add it back in like I did after other surgeries. Not this time. I drink herbal tea or SF koolaid now instead of caffeinated or carbonated drinks. The nice thing is that I haven't had the urge for either one since surgery. Its difficult enough just getting enough nutrition that I don't think about it.
I was an avid Diet Coke fan prior to surgery. I didn't stop drinking it until a few days into my two week liquid diet. By that time I had already started weaning myself off it and was down to about 1/4 a can a day. I still miss soda now, and I have tried a few sips here and there in the last nine weeks, but it doesn't taste the same anymore.
Good luck with your upcoming surgery!

Good Morning Kelly Jo - first of all CONGRATULATIONS on kicking butts! I think that is one of the hardest things to accomplish in life.
I knew that giving up soda was going to be a challenge for me - so I gave it up the day I met with my surgeon in December. After a couple days of headaches I started feeling better. The weird thing for me is when we go out for a meal. I was so used to ordering soda - now I have water. Of course once I have surgery drinking anything at the same time I am eating will be a no no - so I am hoping this new discipline will help in the long run.

PS - What is your surgery date?
I gave up soda a few years ago so I don't have to worry about that.
Tell you what, huge doses of predisone and you'll give it up too, it
tastes like syrup after. It's better now, but don't really care to drink
anything bu****er anymore.
But....CONGRATULATIONS ON becoming a non-smoker!!!!!!!!!!!
I gave them up 50 days ago and don't really miss them.

congrats on quiting smoking, I quit about 20 years ago so that was not an issue for me. As for the soda I was a big diet pepsi fan. But I was so ready for this surgery that when I started my journy with the nut and my surgean I was determined to do things by the book. so I have been. I have not had a soda in over 2 years. I don't miss it at all. When I think about the things that may bother my pouch I don't even want to put it in there. So it really does become easy to do. I wish you all the luck. I know for some people it is hard. Just keep in mind how it will affect your outcome in the end. Alot of the things the surgeon don't want you to do is to make his job easier too. Also helps the the healing process too.
take care Betty
