Wow - thanks to everyone for participating in getting this board going. We have a great web of support here! Here goes today's question. What exercise regiment are you in pre op or post op? Post Op people - what new things are you able to do to promote your fitness?

I'm pre-op and don't really have an excercise regiment. I try to walk some, but the pain in my knees and ankles kills so when I do, I can't again for a few days. I do ride the stationary bike once in awhile, but again, it hurts, not as bad though. Pam

I am post-op 2 years and 362 days! I am definitely the "weekend warrior" and try to do everything i can in 2 days, but during the week I run, bike and soon swim. I am going to be doing 2 triathalons in June and a couple running races again this year. I found a great explanation of my reasoning for running in a magazine, but it could be used for anything physical. It says "I'll keep running because it lets me be selfi****'s the thing I do that's just for me, and nobody else. FYI, I never thought this being-selfish-thing could take so much discipline." That sums me up!

I am 3 months post op - I have been walking on my treadmill 4 times a week for about 2 miles a time and I have just started the resistance training with Dusty at Midwest Bariatrics. I will continue to add to this so I can take advantage of the "window of opportunity" For camping this year, my husband and I just bought new bikes to ride with our kids while we are camping and at home. I can't wait to be on a bike again. It has been years !! Great Question of the day to get conversations going. Great idea !! Shelly

Time for my true confession - I have not been as disciplined with exercise as I should be. I walk only 2 or 3 times a week for about 45 minutes. I also do resistance training with bands twice a week. I need some motivation to seriously get moving over this next month before my surgery - I want to be in the best health possible going in. Any motivational suggestions? Lori

I too have not been true to my excersize. I started a new job last nov. and i am just running all the time with this job. But now tht the weather is alot better I am tring to get out and walk. I do have a tread mill at home but it is just collecting dust right now. I keep telling myself you got to get on this thing and it still just sits there. bad me. I am 18 months post op . Betty

Pre-op I used to walk a mile three times a week. I've slacked off a little since surgery. I blamed it on the weather but I know its just me being lazy. I am trying to get back on my 3x a week schedule again. Since surgery, I have found that I can do a lot more at a time without resting. Before surgery, I would do maybe ten minutes worth of housework. Then I'd be so tired I'd have to take a rest. Now I can get all the housework done, work on two or three of my hobbies and do some yardwork without getting tired. I didn't expect the extra energy with the weight loss so its a huge bonus. I can barely wait for summer and all the stuff I'm going to do with the warm weather.

Well...I am not an exercise person. But I know I need to start something. Until recently I have woke up day after day with alot of pain in my lower back and radiating around to my hips. I am attributing that to a large weightloss in the beginning and my body not being used to it and the way I slept really put me in a bad way when I woke up. I was like that for about 5 weeks. Last week I woke up and wow...not more big pain. My weightloss has slowed down and is more steady. I think my body likes that better! So last week I walked three times..maybe a mile or so. This week I have not yet. But tomorrow my boys and I will be walking after school. I don't have a regimen yet..we have no work out place either in our small town. But I can tell since I have lost...I am more energetic, I want to do more cleaning and putzing around instead of sitting all the time. When I walk I don't get out of breath so fast. All pluses! Cathy
