Grassroots Action in Wisconsin
I received this "call to action" from my surgery group. Please consider sending a letter or making a phone call......
"Just when we thought we were making headway with our local HMOs and State Employee Trust Funds, we hit another wall! There is no positive change or improvement in sight for bariatric surgery coverage with the local or state plans.
Many suffering from morbid obesity in Wisconsin are being denied access to the beneficial treatment options such as bariatric surgery. They need YOUR help and support now!
This is an important issue and it's time for those affected by obesity or those of you who know someone affected by obesity to come together and demand improved access to treatment in Wisconsin. PLEASE TAKE ACTION NOW.
I refer you to the following Obesity Action Coalition website for guidance as to what and how to write the letters or make the calls plus a comprehensive list of who to contact. Please invite your primary health care provider to share their voice as well. We also encourage you to write to the Medical Director of your health plan.

Those of you who have benefited from bariatric surgery, please share your stories of improved health, medication savings, well being, and quality of life.
As Dr. Garren said in the Fall of 2006 Newsletter: "We all have the right to speak on behalf of what we believe. I believe we do, indeed, have the responsibility to do so."
We thank you in advance for trying to make a difference."
