getting started

I've had 1 dietician appointment, will see the psychiatrist this Tuesday, but need 1 more "apporved" weight loss program. I was a member of Lighten Up Wisconsin 2006 but can't get anyone to provide me with proof. I have 2 more dietician appointments and then hopefully schedule surgery. I need to get on with this! I have Security Health insurance and was told if I fulfill this criteria, it will pay. Any ideas from anyone on how to get another "approved" diet proof. (failure, of course)

Hi Karen- I wonder if they would accept something like the South Beach Diet or Atkins. I did not have to show proof I did diets, although I did do a few. I started my process for WLS in the beginning of October and am having Surgery on 4-23-07. I don't think their is any way to speed thru the process. The people who are truly commited to this surgery stick with it, and muster up all the patience you need. I know it seemed like my surgery would never come and I grew very impatient at times. It will happen for you before you know it. Who are you going to go to for surgery? What kind are you looking at having??

Thanks for writing me back. Dr. Selwyn is my surgeon. I haven't met with him, officially. I know him from his residency at St. Joe's. He's a great surgeon, I totally trust him. I'm doing Lap Band. It seems less dramatic, the whole Roux En Y thing scares me. I guess I'll have to be patient. I just thought so long and hard about this that I'm emotionally ready to get the show on the road. I see all the success stories and it makes me so excited! I'd like to have some weight off before we go on our annual trip to Sturgis.

It is great that you are very comfortable with your Dr. I am getting nervous the closer I get to my day of surgery, at times it felt like it would never happen. I know exactly how you feel about being ready emotionally and then just having to wait and wait. What if your Dr reccomends not having the lap band?? Do you have a super high bmi? I was told that I was a good candidate for rny. I had been leaning towards lapband. My bmi is 41. When do you go to Sturgis? I just saw a show about it a couple of weeks ago, it looks like a blast! Keep in touch with your journey, hang in there. I was going to say that the Mn boards have alot more postings than the Wi ones. People have been great with their replies, and suggestions. Molly

Hi guys, my insurance won't take Atkins or South Beach although I have done both. I actually lost 35+ pounds on Atkins but went to Mexico and started eating fruit and couldn't get back into the only protein thing. I go to Sturgis the first week of August for 10 days. I don't know if I'll get to have my surgery before then. My BMI is 35, which is the low limit. But I don't want to gain any more weight, I want to loose weight. All my paternal aunts and uncles have Type 2 diabetes, my maternal all have horrible arthritis and that's where I'm headed unless something gets done. I love this site, it is helping me so much. No one I know or work with is going through this so although my husband and coworkers are supportive, it's not the same as having people who are having the same issues to talk too. Thanks all of you! Karen
