I am looking to talk to anyone who has had the Duodenal Switch surgery and was a self-pay patient here in Wisconsin.

Hi Michelle, I am in the Madison area and my daughter wanted the Vertical Sleeve. We didn't find a doc. around here that had much experience with this surgery so we flew to CA to Lap. Associates of CA and they do all 4 types of surgery. My daughter was self pay so she could chose the surgery that was best for her and the surgeon too. With the DS, make sure that you go to a surgeon that has done lots of them and has good follow up information. The docs. in CA had really good and strict follow up guidelines and that really helped. My daughter started out at a BMI of 50 and now she is at a BMI of 27 and doing great. I wish you the best in this journey. Priscilla

Michelle, I was a self-pay patient at Froedtert Hospital, however it was for the Roux en Y, not duodenal switch. My insurance had a direct exclusion on the surgery but I was determined to have it done. It was the best money I ever spent. I will be one year post-surgery in April 07, and I have lost 95 lbs (hoping to lose 20-25 more!). My husband and I took out a personal loan to pay for the surgery. I do have a blog page on this website, but feel free to contact me if you'd like more information. You are worth the cost! Chris

Thank you Chris for your response..... Congrats on your success. YOU look fabulous. Well ...The program at Froedtert does not do DS surgery. I am determined to do this type of surgery. Happy Anniversary to you, Michelle
