Hey gang! I had successful Roux En Y bypass surgery in 2005. My Mom (nearly 70) is considering Lap Band as a less restrictive/invasive procedure. Any thoughts or information (success/horror stories?!?) Thanks gang! Ron

Hi Ron, I had my Roux En Y 5 months ago but for about 9 months was in the process of trying to get a lap band... I changed my mind in August and have never been so glad! The Lap Band is just so new, and yes although less invasive, it is ALOT of up keep with... pokey weight loss effects. What I mean is after the procedure your are sent to the doc's for a series of "fills" to either inject or release saline from the port and you kind of have to dink around to know if the band is appropriatly adjusted. You get a fill then have to return back to the mush diet for a couple weeks, and see how weight loss goes. You have to wait and see if your not feeling full then get some saline removed, too full, get some saline injected, etc.etc. I personally don't think it's effective for weight loss if you have a good ammount to loose. If she has only about 50-75lbs to loose, the less invasive procedure may be ideal, but if she has more to loose, the frequent fills aren't so ideal. It may take longer to hit goals and she may not even end up reaching her ultimate goal weight. The Roux En Y has been around lots longer with higher success rates. Less dinking around! Hope this helps! I did ALOT of research in my 9 months and was completley against the Roux En Y because it was entirely too invasice and life altering, but I can tell you I made a whole hearted decesion and don't have a single regreat in comaprission to the lap band!
