questions to ask surgeon
I was wondering if anyone could give me some questions they asked their surgeon before your surgery. I mean I am going to ask the basics, like how long will I be off work, what is the pain to be expected (what's normal and not normal) But did anyone think of some questions that would be helpful to ask or thought they should have asked after the fact?? Thanks for your help! :juggle:
Hi Bobbi, These are some of the questions that I came up with after researching and reading the book by Barbara Thompson "Finding the thin person in you" Hope these help. Some of them are geared towards my personal lifestyle.
How long is the surgery?
Is there a clear liquid diet a few days before surgery?
What kind of pain medication is used? How is it dispensed? I heard toradol works well and non narcartic?
what kind of bed would you recommend? we have water bed, boys are regular bed? recliner in living room?
How many days in the hospital?
How long disability?
Find out about support group meetings - do I need to attend 1 before surgery?
Do I need to pay $450 up front? Can I pay 1/2 now and 1/2 later?
Will there be a drainage tube ? I heard about the Jackson Pratt drain?
How does your body know to stop losing weight?
Prescriptions filled before surgery so we can get them filled prior to going to hospital
Weight lift restrictions? 5 lbs in book, 10 lbs in paperwork
the other question that I came up with after surgery was - How long to wear the abdominal binder? How fast on treadmill should I be walking the first few weeks? How much pureed meat should you be eating in week 2 and 3.
Good luck
Shelly
