new - i have appt for meeting and hopefully can get it all started

hi - i'm new and kind of looking forward to getting it all started. i live in polk county wi - is anyone in my area? i'm hoping to have the surgery done in fridley mn with dr baker. has anyone had him for their surgeon? i also have medica for my insurance - has anyone had any problems with them? i look forward to meeting the people on this forum. thanks! :wave:

Hi Wendy. I am not from anywhere near you, but I have United Health Care--Medica insurance and they approved my RNY surgery withing 2 days. I am having surgery in Madison on Dec 5. I think what they will cover depends on your policy. My policy does not cover Lap Band, but it does the gastric bypass. They have been really great to work with. One way to find out if they cover lap band is to call the 800 number and ask someone. Best of Luck!

I'm so excited - I called the 800 number and it's all covered!!! My Medica covers about 5 of them. And I shouldn't have any copays or anything because I just had a knee surgery and am having the other knee done next money so I shouldn't have any out of pockets!!! Customer service said that it's a really big thing now and she's heard all good about it! :-) Please keep in contact and let me know how it goes for you! Good luck!
