Hi everyone! My name is Kelly, and I'm reserching my options for WLS. I'm wondering if anyone in WI has had the Gastric Sleeve procedure? I know people who have had the lap band and people that have had RNY and was just looking for some feedback on the Vertical Sleeve. I'm looking for something pretty permenant, but the lap band seems pretty high maintence, and I don't like the malabsorption idea of the others. Any insite at all?

Hi Kelly, My daughter, Anne had the vertical sleeve done one year ago and has lost 145 lbs and is doing and feeling great. She stayed in the hospital for 24 hours and we went shopping on her fourth day after surgery. The good thing about the sleeve is that you still have a fully functioning stomach and no strictrues or malabsorption. Also, very little to no vomiting. We looked around here for the sleeve done as a stand alone surgery but the docs here were doing the sleeve as the first part of the DS. We didn't want the intestines touched and wanted the stomach made small enough for the weightloss that Anne needed. We flew to CA and had her surgery done at LapSF in San Fran. We stayed a week at the hotel that the hospital owns with free shuttle service to the hospital and doc. appointments. The total cost was about $18,000 for everything plus air fare and hotel. We then had her follow-up appointments with her PCP here. Check out the VSG site here and read profiles. This is the best WLS surgery and Anne loves her life now and is looking into having the first of her plastic surgeries on Halloween!!!! We are staying in town for that though. If you have any questions please e-mail or I can give my phone # to you. Priscilla
