My mom is having surgery
My mom is having gastric bypass surgery on Wed. and I am very scared. I cannot even think about it without crying. Please share your good experiences to put my mind at ease...I am freaking out about this and I do not want to let her know just how scared I am. In the long run, I know it will be better for her health, but I worry about complications of the actual surgery.
Hi Heather I had the Lap Band procedure done about 3 months ago and it went so great only 23 hours in the hospital, back to work in 8 days and little to no pain. My experience was so positive I would not hesitate to do it again and would not change a thing. Having your support is going to be a major part of your moms treatment and I will keep you both in my thoughts and welcome you both
Wow Robert, that is pretty remarkable. She said she had no idea how long she would be out, I suppose it depends on how the surgery goes. She is 50 years old, I have no idea what her current weight is. I can still put my arms around her when I am hugging her though :)
I am not sure what a Lap Band is. Is it the same as laparoscopic bypass? That is what she is having. At any rate, thank you for your comment. I just cannot wait until this week is over, I will feel so much better.
Is there anything that you can suggest that I do for her, like anything you wished someone did for you or that really stands out that made you smile?
Hi Heather,
Who is your MOM's doctor????
I have Dr. Chua he was great
I had RNY in Dec. 05.
I'm now down 116 pound and have lots of energy
The one thing that stand out is even though I live with my
mom and husband and daughter my friend KK came over and
made jello and pudding for me and went for a short walk.
It's the small things that will help just being there.
She will want to see you as soon as she wakes up.
Good luck to you and your mom!!!!
I am not sure who her doctor is, I just know that it is being done at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee at 10AM Wed. I cannot wait until it is done.
I am actually working on a gift for her that I am hoping she will like. She is not very good with her digital camera. She never takes her memory cards in, just prints a few photos here and there from her printer. I confiscated them all and am going to edit and then have all the pictures printed at Target or Walmart. Hopefully this will cheer her up while healing.
Hi Heather, That sounds like a great gift. Hang in there!!!!! My daughter had the VSG 11 months ago and I was scared as her Mom. I knew that she needed the surgery to get to a healthier weight and get rid of her metobolic disorder that was causing the weight gain. She was in the hospital only one day and we were shopping on the 4th day. So far she has lost 145 lbs and looking into plastic surgery. I will send up prayers for your Mom and you, let us know how things go. Priscilla
