Not getting to goal

Hi everyone. So is anyone having problems getting to goal? I had my surgery done on 9/30/04 and I still have not reached my goal. Sometimes I think I stretched my stomach because I can finish something on my plate. Of course, it is nothing like I used to eat! Just paranoia! I haven't had any other surgeries to remove excess skin because actually I'm about 69lbs away from the average weight for a person my height and age. I just keep trying...by exercising and making better food choices, but I am getting no where. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch! Toni

Hi Toni, This is a tough one and I don't know that I will be much help... have you chatted with your surgeon about this? Maybe he can give you some suggestions. Other than that you might want to try tracking what you eat daily to see what types of foods you are eating, when, amounts etc. That's what I've been doing and I found I wasn't eating very balanced meals. I find my FitDay.com program to be helpful in tracking food. I've also heard some people try the Plateau Busting thing... here's the link: http://www.digitalhorsewoman.com/plateaubusting.htm I've not tried it, but I hear others have had some success with it. Good luck and hang in there. Tracy A.

Hi Tony, I don't want to sound like a doubting Thomas, but are you eating things the way you should be? My experience with other people with RNY who gain weight or never get to goal is that they have learned to trick their new stomachs. They eat more "liquidy" foods that go right through, have protein shakes everyday (not a bad thing, but you should be getting enough protein through normal foods), they don't eat their more filling proteins first, and the biggy is they drink while eating food, instead of drinking 45 minutes before or after eating. This pushes food through, you get the calories, and never get the "full" feeling. I would make an appointment with your dietician again for a "tune-up". That's what they are there for. If you want to track your calories and protein to find out for yourself an accurate measure of your caloric intake, sign up for the free version at www.fitday.com and track your activities, foods and tons of other great features. I love that site because it also keeps me honest. I can keep my calories between 850 and 1100 quite easily without jeopardizing my protein. Good luck! Lois

Thanks so much for your thoughts. I know I have to exercise more! I do not eat and drink together. I can't. If I do, I get this uncontrolable burping...so I wait to drink...I think I have to make better food choices and get fruits and vegies in my life again. I eat chicken/fish, some breads...some fruits and oatmeal or scrambled eggs for breakfast. Thanks for your insight! I'll let you know how things go! *Hugs*
