Topic: RE: HELP
Do you have a pool near you? Swimming is great exercise (fun too) and takes the stress off feet and joints.
Gyms have various equipment for exercising that can spare your feet as well, but most require membership. I started using a 24 hour fitness for under $13 a month, through Costco, which is really affordable. The only rub is the 24 hour Fitness nearest me only has a small sal****er pool, not the best for exercise, but the other equipment will do just fine.
I also find it really helpful to get on track with what I'm eating when I use a program like Fitday or Daily Plate. Having every calorie, protein / fat / carb gram counted and tallied really helps me see what I'm really doing (especially those sneaky carbs).

Topic: Bariatric Surgery at Madigan/Fort Lewis/Wellness Test question
Hello Everybody,
My name is Sandy and I have been going through the process of getting my surgery at Army Madigan Hospital.
I was wondering if some members on the WA message board had their surgery at Madigan and if they could recommend a surgeon.
I have heard that Dr. Sebesta is very good and friendly and I would like to select him. Does anybody know at what time you can select the surgeon?
And how does the Wellness Test and Evaluation work (I know it has two parts to it and I have already the appointment for it)?
Thank you for all your help!
Sandy

Topic: RE: Aetna
I have Aetna and was covered for Band or RNY 2 years ago. I used Dr. McMahon at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. They have an insurance specialist in their office who did all the insurance work for me and I was glad for it!
They probably cover other surgeries too, but those were the 2 I looked in to. At that time they did not cover the Sleeve. I don't know about now.
Best~

Topic: RE: New to Washington....
I had a consult with Dr. Marylee Peters in Seattle. She was recommended by a friend who had her do a breast reduction. I'm not quite ready yet, but I liked her very much!

Topic: Gastric Band Support Group Meeting Reminder
Hi,
It's been a while since I've posted here, but I would like to invite any interested Adjustible Gastric Band patients, pre or post op, to my support group, "Growing Thin".
We meet the last Saturday of each month at the Starbucks in Tukwila at 9:00 a.m. It's a very positive and encouraging group of about 12 women or so in attendance each month. We hold a very open, non-structured meeting where we discuss living with the Band, share eperiences, and celebrate WL victories .
If you have an Adjustible Gastric Band and are looking for fun, education, and a supportive experience please feel free to join us!
If you're interested, please respond so I can get a head count and send you directions to the Starbucks.
Best~

Topic: RE: Surgeon Around Fed Way?
Hi Katy,
My surgeon is in Seattle, right off of I-5 North. It's the Swedish Hospital program and the Dr. is Ross McMahon. The PA George and the dietician Dani are both AWESOME and I work a program similar to yours.
On another note, our support group meeting is on the 29th in Tukwila, (not far from you at all). We meet at 9:00 a.m. Let me know if you want to come and I'll send you intructions.
Looking forward to meeting you...finally!

Topic: RE: Questions????
Hey there... My Sleeve was done as an outpatient procedure, so no hospital for me, but don't stress about losing weight immediately those first few days! You will hopefully be given some IV fluids to keep hydrated - added fluids will add to your total weight, but these fluids are necessary. I hope this was a little helpful, lol. Best Wishes to you on this wonderful step you are taking!
Hang in there!!! Katie

Topic: RE: Questions????
My advice is to follow your Doctors advice. I lost weight in the hospital (5) days . I had the RNY 9 years ago. I had more pain with the tummy tuck than the original RNY . Good luck!

Topic: Questions????
I am going to have my surgery Feb 7 at Madigan. I have been reading this forum and some others. I have a couple questions. I was told by my surgeon that the Sleeve would be best for me due to my Fibromyalgia. I wanted the RNY but was told the pain afterwards would be to much and would enquire to may ER visits and cat scans. I am ok with having the sleeve. But I have been reading that some people actually gain weight while in the hospital. Not just with the sleeve but with other surgerys as well. Have any of you gained weight while in the hospital?
Also My Dr told me I would be in the hospital any where from 3 to 5 days. Is this just Madigan being carefull? Other places only keep you for 1 to 2 days. How long did you stay in the hospital? I am a full time student and mom and I really dont want to miss an entire week of school.
