Topic: RE: Flailing and asking for support
Hi Debbie,
Thanks. I would like to go to a meeting. I'm a REALIZE band patient and I know it works if I work it. See, if a person swallows too big a bite or doesn't chew well enough, it hurts like hell. Couple that excuse with not dealing with the obesity between my ears, and it was easy enough to figure out that anything I could mix into a bowl of ice cream went down smooth and in great quantities. The weird thing is that prior to surgery I maintained my figure with sour cream and french fries and wasn't even into sweets.....
Any how, I did realize that just like alcohol (I just had nine years sober on Feb 1) , that I needed to switch my belief and thinking from an attitued of deprivation (I CAN'T HAVE THIS, WAHH!!) over to an attitude of freedom ( I DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THAT)...So, in the last three weeks, I've dropped ten pounds (putting me at 224) just by eating 1000 calories of healty food (except 150 of it is still coffee with cream:) and walking 60-90 minutes a day.
I feel so much better, but have to make intentional efforts to not trip out on the fact that had I been doing this for the last six months, I'd already be at goal...perhaps I can be of assistance to others though, by demonstrating that these things are tools that you have to make an effort to use or it can end up being like all the other gimmicks that we bought and didn't use.
It feels really good to commit the truth of my mistakes on paper (epaper).
THANk YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT!!

Hi Kelly,
I would love to meet you too! Are we allowed togive email addresses out on this site? I found that it is not notifying me of replies even though I checked the box for it. I can tell you for sure this time pre-op is good because it gives you a chance to work on the part of the problem that's between your ears. I think that's where I went wrong. I spent the last six months not using this tool. It is possible to end up having it be like exercize equipment that goes unused. I'm back on now and making progress though:)

Thanks Katie! Please do let me know some specific meetings, as I looked on this site last night and it looked like all the upcoming meetings are informational (pre-op, applicant) type meetings. Except for one held the 2nd Thur of each month, which I already missed. I see a few other people replied to me with specific invitations as well, so I'll try and hook up with them.

Kristina,
You are not alone! I had RNY on 3/8/2010 at Puget Sound Surgical Center in Edmonds. I completed my 6 month supervised diet, required by insurance, at Pacific Nutrition and Wellness. My first support group meeting, was 4 days prior to my surgery, at the Marysville group. I have not missed one meeting. The support is vital to success.
I too, have struggled with my weight loss, losing 85 lbs in my first 6 months, then it stopped. I am still 40 lbs short of my goal, which is probably 20 lbs short of the "standard" for my height, etc.
Last month I resorted to seeing a womens bariatric specialist that spoke at our support group in November 2010. Now, through following her direction, I have finally started losing again. I just reached my birthday (Nov) goal yesterday. Better late then never, right?
Never, at the beginning of this journey, did I ever think that I would be in this position. I had the normal pre-op fears - "what if it doesn't work for me" , etc. But once the weight started coming off, and recovery was completed, I figured that I was in the clear. The "tool" is just that, whatever tool you may have, it is still up to us to make it work.
Puget Sound Surgical Center and Pacific Nutrition and Wellness are both GREAT! I am so very thankful for the monthly support group in Marysville, as it has helped me through all the ups and downs. Support is the key!
I hope that you find a local support group, but if not, or you just want to give it a try, our group is great. Our facilitator is a lap-band patient, and we have other regulars as well, but all types of surgery are welcome.
Best of luck with your continued journey, and remember, no matter where you are at in this journey, someone else is there with you or has been and is willing to help.
START OVER - You can do it!

Topic: RE: OH Event Bellevue WA
I'm down in Olympia and am getting involved with a local support group in Tumwater, so the distance to your support group is a bit farther than I would want to join... But is this discount code something you would be able to share with me? I would love to attend the OH event in Bellevue!

Thanks Katie. I will make myself go to some meetings locally. I only live a mile or so from NWWLS on 132nd, but had the impression it was an exclusive groups. HOWEVER, I do believe we tend to find what we expect to find, so I will explore those options you put out there. THANKS!!

Hi Paul,
I didn't think anyone had replied to this because I checked the box for it to notify me if anyone did, and perhaps it went to junkmail? I have been stuck in this frame of mind that I can't show myself to any of you until AFTER I get results...but believed that sharing the process was to ugly or something. It's hard to explain. I suppose one way to put it is that when a person looks at the before/after pics, there's this perception that the change was an EVENT. But when I look at the dates under the pics, I remember that it's a PROCESS.
At any rate, thanks for your reply.
