My goal is a fifteen mile bike ride - perhaps on the trail...hopefully, I will accomplish that by September!

I was also one of his preop patients.  St Francis closed his clinic two weeks before my scheduled surgery!  I was very comfortable with him.  I just didn't want to wait for him to get reestablished somewhere else.

Topic: Finally!!!!
OK so here it is I finally got a call  today  that Dr. Bright did my final review and ok'd me for surgery Chris my surgery coordinator told me that the scheduler would be calling me in about a week, week in a half. So I was kinda bummed. I was sitting here in front of the computer when my phone starts ringing, its Rockwood clinic... I look at the clock it's 6:16, so I am thinking it must be a reminder for an appt, then I am like no answer it you don't have an appt tomorrow. So I answer it expecting a machine it wasn't it was Cheryl the scheduler!!!!!!!!!! She tells me she was working late and got to my folder and had everything scheduled!!!!!! Drum role please!!!!

Topic: RE: Dr. Alperovich
I keep reading posts on the main forum by RNYers who either didn't know, or didn't practice things like not drinking for 30 minutes before and after eating meals, taking 30 minutes to eat their food, getting a minimum of 80 grams of protein a day, taking all vitamins, having protein shakes, giving up caffeine and carbonation, staying hydrated, giving up smoking etc.

ALL of these things and more are things that Dr. A makes patients do AND log for well over a month before surgery.  So, I believe, his patients are well educated and well prepared for surgery when it's their time.  I still don't know, and probably won't ever know what happened to close his clinic, but I will never believe that it's a reflection on his skill as a surgeon.

OTOH, I'm glad that I'm now, hopefully, having DS as I think it's a better choice for me than RNY.  But, I will always feel that Dr. Alperovich is a terrific and compassionate doctor.

Wonderful goals Helen!

I'd like to try a mini-tri in the future. I was going to do the Tri Turtle, but a couple of things held me back:

1. I don't have a bike

2. Same date as the AFLAC Iron Girl 10K around Greenlake (doing this with my daughter).

Good luck on yours!

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

WOW... that is such a GREAT goal...  I think you may have inspired me to do a mini triathon... I have a WLS buddie who may do it with me.

I also want to get under 190 pounds...

Re: taking time off work... for my RNY I took off almost 3 weeks.. I could have gone back before that... but it would have been in the middle of the week.. so I waited until a Monday to go back to work

Good Luck... please keep us posted on your progress!

Topic: RE: Has anyone had part of their intestine die?
I have heard of problems with twisted or a blockage  intestines after surgery and its possible that this could cause the intestine to die  ... but I think  this complication is rare.  I have been told that as you loose weight and if your abdominal muscles are not toned than  the intestional could twist on themselves.  I guess this is a good reason to strengthen our abdominal muscles.

I do not believe this is a RNY complication only... I think its is possible for this to happen with any of the WLS procedures.
