INSURANCE PROBLEM

I have recently been accepted for WA Basic Health and I chose Group Health Cooperative. The problem is that in the booklet that tells what is NOT covered, it specifically states weight loss surgeries and programs. Do I give up or does anyone know of any success with them through the appeals process. I know Dr. Schrock accepts Group Health Cooperative, but WA Basic Health is the problem. Most of the Group Health plans have dropped the coverage unless the employer purchases a rider that says they want it covered. I am not sure how Basic Health works. Sorry I can't be of more help. Lori 281/255/140

Hi Lori, it's good to see you on the boards and doing SO WELL! I didn't get to eat anything but pureed for 4 weeks and I was so ready to start. About Group Health basic. That is what we teachers had and it was covered until the end of this month-Sept. Now it is excluded from the GH Basic plan. There are some GH plans that still cover the surgery, but the employer has to choose a more expensive plan, darn it. How many will? Mari 305/256/165?

Group Health's exclusions are pretty ironclad. I tried to get around it with no success. I ended up self paying. Good luck
