HI all I have some questions/concerns. My surgery date is Dec. 28th, lap RNY. My husband has decided he offically wants to move out of state. He is originally from the East Coast and wants to be closer to his family. The reason for always staying was because my family lives here. Well, they decided a year ago to move back with near there extended family for there "final" years too. Anyhow, we plan to go at the end of Jan or Feb, basically when the house sells here. My concerns are traveling after surgery. Does anyone have recommendation or suggestions. We are praying my surgery is smooth sailing and there are no hang-ups with it. I think I will be fine. I mean we will be driving for about a week or so, but can stop etc whenever. Anyone that can help or give ideas, thoughts, feelings...lol. I hope everyone is doing great!!!! I am not nervous yet about surgery, guess I have to much on my mind to think about it. My surgeon appts. are next week though, then the following week I am taking my son to see his Grandparents for Christmas, then I will be back for Christmas here and surgery right after that! Busy month. Okay talk to you all later Loretta

I drove 1450 miles about 4-1/2 weeks after open RNY surgery. It wasn't so bad and you will know when you're ready. My doc recommended taking 3-4 days for the drive. Also, have heard to stop and stretch your legs or do ankle exercises in the car every hour. That is to help prevent blood clots. I wouldn't want to have had to do a lot of packing, lifting and moving at that point and even now 7 weeks out from surgery. Today, went to Costco and some other shopping and my stomach felt tender from the grocery lifting and toting. I came home and put my stomach binder on to give that area some support. So, if you're going to do this, make sure you'll have plenty of help from your family in case you are not able to do much physically - just in case. BTW, I didn't have any complications at all - but am a bit of a wimp when it comes to illness and surgery. Could be other people would have different advice. Also, have a plan for aftercare with a physician at your new home. And you may (or may not) want to discuss this with your local surgeon. Good luck and hope your surgery and recovery go well!!
