Can anyone tell me about the scarring?

I am having my surgery Monday (open VBG) and I am curious about how bad the scarring will be? I really wanted the laporscopic procedure but my doctor said it wasn't an option for me because of a previous operation.

It all depends on your doc...my hubbie has a 12 -13 inch scar and mine in 4 1/2 inches...VBG is also a little less invasive then RNY or most others...one more thing...it depends on if you're also having your gallbladder out. I dunno about you, but I would rather have one scar then 5-7 little 2 inch scars....and that's what you get with the laporscopic...no worries...it's all worht every inch of it.... 1 inch or 40 inches I would do it all over again. Rachael open RNY 9/2/04 -62 lbs.

Thank you so much for replying to my question. It is Wednesday night and I am starting to get really nervous. Is that normal? I think it is because I am here alone. I saw in your profile that you mentioned going on a liquid diet before surgery, my doctor hasn't mentioned doing that, should I do it anyway?

if your doc doesnt mention, i wouldnt worry about it, mine wasnt needed, i went out and pigged out on some serious food the night before my surgery, and it was no big deal.

Dr Weber did my Open RNY and my scar is only 5 inches long. Good luck on Monday. It's a whole new beginning for you!!! Sue
