I have been lurking around these boards for a few days and thought that it was about time that I introduced myself. I live in Vancouver, USA and have been thinking about have WLS for a couple of years now. The thought of surgery has always scared me, but nothing else seems to work. Oct 2003 I finally got the nerve to talk to my doctor about it and she sent me a referral. But then the insurance company decided that, started Jan 2004, they weren't going to cover WLS anymore. So I decided to switch insurance companies. Now I have Kaiser and they are going to cover the surgery. I saw my doctor a few weeks ago for the referral and the surgery dept. sent me an 18 page questionnaire that I filled out and sent back the next day. I will go in for my lab work on Friday and then it is just a waiting game. I think that they will schedule me for an orientation and then I have to see the nutritionist. I am not sure if I have to have a psych eval or not. But, at least the ball is now rolling. I pray that God will just open the doors and I can get this done soon! Any advice on making things easier or what to expect would be great! Liann

Hi Liann! I am in Vancouver and in the Kaiser program too. I am scheduled for surgery Oct.18. It is a long road but so worth it! Hope to see you at one of the support meetings. Good luck on your journey.

It is nice to meet someone in Vancouver who has already gone through the process. How long has it taken to get your surgery date? Any tips you can give me on dealing with Kaiser would be helpful. I will keep you and your family in my prayers as you wait for your surgery. Liann
