nasogastric tube ng for short is aflexible tube pleced after you are under anesthesia. NG tubes help with post op nausea and vomiting , it keeps the stomach empty of gastric juices and air by being placed to suction and will also be helpful for the post op upper gastrointestinal scan to chesk for leaks, the liquid a person normally drinks can be squirted down the NG tube instead.

just a note... if by chance you have your surgery done at madigan, you will not have the ng tube, you will have a drainage tube that comes out of your tummy instead, and it does the exact same thing, only you get to wear it home usually until the staples come out, and howww it hurts coming out. mine stayed either pinned in my panties or pinned to the inside of my skirt. good luck!
