Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

I didn't know they had one in Tacoma as well!  I will check the website (Thanks Pix!) and try to find dates. I am wanting to schedule these types of events in advance, along with some local marathons (gasp!). Still looking for a good and inexpensive road bike for the Tri Turtle Tri in September.

Thanks ladies!

Kathy...

Are you doing some training this summer?  I am planning on doing a 25 mile Bike ride on Sept 20 .. I would love to bike with you this summer.   My hubby and I have been riding around Kitsap Lake in Bremerton... it's about 4 miles.. but you get experience with hills... up and down... rolling streets... and for the most part... not very much traffic.

I will definately let you know when I get my bike. To avoid heart attack making hills, I will have to bike somewhere other than around my home (main highway with a lot of ferry traffic. The hills are not "rolling", they are darned near verticle!)  I love the Kitsap Lake area, and am very familiar with it...old stomping grounds.

I've been doing as much "training" as I can at the YMCA-Gig Harbor. I'm timing my laps and upping them weekly for the 1/2 mile swim. I don't have a bike yet, so I hit the PreCore Recumbant and program in hills and resistance training. As for the 3.5 mile run, I need to wait until I am down a bit more, before I start jogging pavement. I live out near the Southworth Ferry, so no matter which way I go, I have a very STEEP HILL, actually, beyond STEEP hill to go up and down....not looking forward to that, but looking forward to getting a bike soon!

The Tri Turtle Tri is the 24th of September, I believe. But there are other "runs" that a group of us (from work) are planning on making.

As soon as I find out dates, I will post.

The Tri Turtle Tri is a marathon in Kitsap County, starting at Wild Cat Lake. There is a 1/2 mile Lake Swim (approximately 18 full laps in a pool); 15.2 mile bike ride (moderate to hilly terrain); then wrapped up with a 3.5 mile run/walk/crawl around the lake.

I have been training in a pool for the swim, and will start lake swims when it is a bit warmer out, thank you very much.  Not too worried about the 3.5 run/walk/crawl...I'm sure I can do one of those!

I'm not real hip on the bike portion yet. Do not have a bike, and wish I could just take my recumbant from the gym (they frown on that though).

You can do sections, have a team and do relay, or do the entire gig yourself.

Date 9/13/09...so there is still plenty of time for me to be a bit lighter and find a bike I guess...

What days and time are you at the Gig Harbor Y? My daughter is on the swim team and i am there M_W_F from 7-8 PM. I usually run and on occasion I do the water cardio class with one of the other swim team moms. I will look for you! I cannot figure out how to add a photo!
