How soon can you travel?

I have a question for those that have had the surgery. How soon can you travel? My date is set for March 18 and my husband just informed me that he has gotten us tickets for a cruise to leave on April 7 for our 10th wedding anniversary. I have a feeling that we are going to have to cancel it or at least postpone it. Did anyone do any traveling after surgery?

From what I read on many posts from the OH main site  and RNY site.... most people do not have any trouble traveling so soon after surgery.  You may want to talk to your surgeon and get his/her advise.

You may need to bring some of your own food... protein powder but by 3 weeks out I could eat eggs, cottage cheese, cheese, tuna and soft fish.

I hope you get to go...

Does it have to be so soon? I think you could travel but I would think you would be so much more comfortable  further out from surgery. Having said that...I've never been on a bad cruise!

Ahh... those days post-op are ever so fresh in my mind. After the first week I was fine and could have traveled at that time... but to 2nd what Helen said, pack your own food!

I was in Las Vegas 10 days after my surgery.. It was my sister's 40th birthday.  Physically I was fine and I took my own protein and food (bring your own case of bottled water) you'll have it a little easier because on a cruise they have all sorts of food available, hotels in vegas ...not so much.  You'll,  be on soups, softs and proteins....mentally, was a little harder, especially being in the social environment and not being able to participate is very hard that soon after surgery.  I was never hungry, but it seemed to me that everyone was constantly eating and drinking all kind of things I couldn't have...But I survived and had a great time...

hugs and kisses, Karen

Thank you for all who have posted! I will have to check with my doctor to see what he thinks! I hope I am up for it because this is the first time my husband has planned anything all by himself! I was so proud of him!!
