XPost-OT but important-cell phone solicitors
Not sure if you are familiar with the website snopes.com, but it's a great reference of "urban legends" and the likes:

Actually, someone pointed out snopes to me last week when I posted it.
The phone number to call to get on the Do not Call list is a governement number though and you can call and register your cell phone if you want to, just to be safe.
I called and got on the list no problem. The part that my be a hoax is that there will be a database of cell phone numbers released to phone solictors, apprently that part isn't completely true.
However, the "do not call registration" is run by the us government and is not a hoax.
Whether you register your phone numbers is up to you; to me it seems like a fairly harmless way to at least cut down on some of the many unsolicited calls we get.
