~NAMASTE~
WELCOME, DEB!
l HAD MY SURGERY AT ST. FRANClS AND MY ENTlRE STAY POST-OP (OVERNlGHT BUT LESS THAN 24 HOURS) WAS lN THE DAY SURGERY UNlT (DR. SRlKANTH PREFERS lT THAT WAY). THE ENlRE AREA lS PRlVATE "ROOMS" NOT JUST CURTAlN DlVlDERS. THERE WERE TWO OTHER PEOPLE lN THE UNlT THAT NlGHT, BOTH ALSO DR. SRlKANTH PATlENTS, MY MOTHER WAS ALLOWED TO STAY lN MY ROOM WlTH ME AT ALL TlMES AND ALTHOUGH THERE WASN'T A BED, THERE WAS ONE OF THE LARGER RECLlNG TYPE CHAlRS. l KNOW THE LADY WHO HAD SURGERY AFTER ME HAD HER HUSBAND THERE ALL NlGHT, TOO.
MOST HOSPlTALS NOWADAYS ALLOW ONE ADULT lMMEDlATE FAMlLY MEMBER OR PARTNER TO STAY WlTH THE PATlENT OUTSlDE OF NORMAL VlSlTlNG HOURS AND WlTH A LlTTLE ADVANCE PLANNlNG, YOU COULD PROBABLY MAKE SURE SHE HAS A PLACE TO REST COMFORTABLY NEAR YOUR SlDE. l THlNK BECAUSE YOU WlLL BE UP AND WALKlNG THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THE NlGHT (MY NlGHT NURSES WERE TASK MASTERS AND WOKE ME UP TO SlP AND WALK ABOUT ONCE AN HOUR) THE HOSPlTAL MAY TRY TO PUT YOU lN A PRlVATE ROOM WHlCH WOULD BE lDEAL FOR YOUR MOTHER (NOT THAT ElTHER ONE OF YOU WlLL ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO TRULY REST). ALL YOU HAVE TO DO lS CALL THE HOSPlTAL OR ASK YOUR SURGEON'S OFFlCE ABOUT lT.
GOOD LUCK!
AMY
I had surgery in June at Virginia Mason. Most Bariatric Patients are in private rooms. I think it was the 5th floor...memory is fading quickly. My mom came and went as she pleased. It was not an issue at all. She would come in quite late. THere is a hotel connected to the hospital so she was staying there. When my husband was in town he came and went as he pleased as well.
Even though the hospital is older I found the care to be excellent and ultimately if someone is with you then the nursing staff don't have to answer as many call buttons.
Good luck on your surgery. My surgeon was Dr Chang but I have heard good things about Dr Hunter as well.
If you have questions feel free to let me know.

I had mine in July and my wife had hers on the 11th of Nov. both at VM Seattle. If you get a private room, you can have any one person stay in the room with you. However, if you get a semi private (like my wife ended up with) you can still have one person stay with you but they must be the same sex.
I had a private room so we didn't run into this problem, but I ended up having to rent one of their rooms in their hotel for the first night until they moved my wife to a private room.
One other thing I highly recommend is to have your family member talk to the nurse asap when you get up to your room and ask for a cot (only for private room). If you get up their early enough, they are SO much better than the recliners!
Good luck to you!!
Actually the date is 12/23..can you tell I'm ready to get this show on the road! It's taken a year to get here.
Thanks for all the kind replies. My sister will be staying with me..she's a night nurse and so am I..so hopefully between the two of us we can get most everything done ourselves..like walking,,sipping water,,breathing exercises.
When I'm not doing those things we plan on watching dvd's of little britian and laughing ourselves silly (okay..so maybe not the best plan post surgery but it sounds good in theory.)
