I have taken it before, it did help me lose the weight with proper diet and excerise, but of course once I stopped taking it I put the weight back on.

I was prescribed this in college and it helped curb my cravings... I lost about 16lbs over a couple months.

I am not taking Phentermine in preparation of my WLS; however I have used it in the past.  As others stated, it works (with some minor side effects that I liken to being on speed) for as long as it's taken.  Once it is stopped, you usually put the weight back on.  I wouldn't recommend using it long term.  But if you trust your doctor and want to proceed I say go.  In your case, when the Phentermine is stopped, you will have had your surgery and will no longer need it to continue losing weight.

Hi,

I have used Phentermine more times than I can count over many years.  It works great for short term use.  It is like taking "speed."  It reves up your metabolism.  Side effects can include:  the shakes (like too much caffeine), very dry mouth, inability to sleep, talking too much, nervousness, excess thirst, restlessness (feeling like you need to move all the time), headaches, stomache upset, dry eyes, heart palpatations, nerves tingling, not eating at all, food just doesn't taste good, dizzieness, lightheadedness.

Normally for the first few nights when taking phen I can't sleep at all.  Usually around the third or fourth night I can usually fall asleep off and on.  Going to work has never been a problem because you take another phen in the morning and it peps you up again.  After a week or so I can usually fall asleep and stay asleep, but the sleep isn't deep.

After a week or two I find myself needing to take the phen later in the day - around lunch time or later to keep it working throughout the evening or I end up munching out in the evening.  After a month or so I've always had to increase my dosage to keep it working - which is not a good thing!

It is a temporary fix to say the least.  As soon as you stop taking it you will have a big rebound.  The apetite comes back within a couple of days and you will be so hungry!

You definitely do not want to take any phen before your surgery because you will be much harder to put to sleep!  Need to stop it at least a week before any surgery.

Phen can be very mentally addictive.

Hope this helps
