Welcome to the Washington Board Jennifer!

I can totally relate to wanting to have your favorite foods before surgery.... before i started my pre-op diet... my co-workers took me out for my last "pasta blow-out" at the Cheesecake factory...  and my hubby to took me out for chinese my last night before my pre-op started.

Hi Jen,

Oooohhh, I'm so happy for you that you have a surgery date.  I got all my ducks in a row (or so I thought) and then discovered my _ _ _ _  insurance had a new requirement (12 months of doctor recorded weight loss).  So now I'm starting pretty much all over.

Of course realizing I was back to dieting again if I ever want surgery I hit all my favorite restaurants, etc., and gained another 6 pounds in less than 2 weeks!  And I don't even have my surgery date yet!  I'd say you are very, very normal.

I've since my splurge lost about 15 pounds overall.  I can only imagine how I will be once I do have a surgery date if I already feel like I'm at the "last super" stage.

As for your being scared - I'm a long ways out from surgery and I'm already afraid and nervous about it too.  I've read so many books, and the internet, and talked to so many people and doctor's about this surgery - I know it's what I want and need - but yes the fear is still there.  Maybe it's silly on my part, but I have a bigger fear of being hungry and not being able to eat after the surgery, or constantly feeling weak and dizzy from lack of nutrition because I have the fear my body won't absorb all the vitamins.....those fears are bigger than the fear of something going wrong with surgery.

Seems crazy to me to feel that way, yet my mental health evaluation said I perfectly sane!

I think most of us Chubby people have this fear of loosing our friend "food."  Afterall it has become one of the most important things in our lives and to many of us it is a "true" addiction.  And another fear....if we loose that addiction, what new addiction will we turn to?  Picking our noses?

A bit of humor helps,

Best wishes to you for a successful surgery and a new slender you.

Hi Jen! Welcome to the boards. I'm a little late in getting my welcome to you here...but WELCOME.

I'm no longer in the Tacoma area, but have gotten such GREAT support here, that I can't stay away...I think they'd get mad if I tried to anyway. My husband is in the Air Force, and we moved to South Carolina at the beginning of October.

Like others have said, you are normal.  It's normal to want your "last suppers" and be nervous.  I had several. I did a self imposed liquid diet...then my surgery got rescheduled and said forget it. Then I had several "last suppers."  And then I pretty much said forget it until I had surgery. I didn't have to do any liquids or pre-op fasting or anything - except the night before thing.

Anyway, what you're going through is totally normal. I have times where I wish I grieve the kinds of foods I can and cannot eat, but also when I grieve because I can only eat a little bit. I don't totally understand it all, but I suppose that's normal to a degree. Though I am loving my new lease on life...I'm down 124 pounds...only 41 to goal!

I can't wait to see your journey unfold!
