I am starting this whole process, I had an appointment with my PCG and she said it was a great idea to get the lap band my insurence company DSHS faxed her the referal papers and I have no clue whats next.

This all started when I saw my therapist for the first time and I mentioned it to her, she said he had just reffered another girl and she is having the surgery in september. I guess this girl only had to wait 2 months from the time she mentioed it.

Whats wierd is she didnt have to do a 6month diet. I called my therapist upset thinking I wont be able to do it becaue my problem is loosing weight she siad no there isnt a 6month diet but this is all i am hearing about.

Can anyone reasure me with what this whole process is going to be. I have tried calling so many different people but no one will help.

Thank You for your Help

Don't get discouraged is the best advice I can give you!  Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with Medicaid, but I'm sure there are others on the Washington board who have been through that process and can give you some idea what to expect.  I know that some insurance companies require a 6 month supervised weight loss attempt.  My insurance company did - I lost a couple pounds through that, but was not real successful.  That didn't stop me from having surgery - in fact my insurance company approved me with the first request submitted!  It was just a requirement that I see my PCP once a month, a dietition a couple times and have documentation of an attempt to lose weight for the 6 months.

Hopefully someone on this board who has dealt with Medicaid will respond to you and give you more specific feedback.  You might want to post your question on the main board as well...  But hang in there - it will be worth it for you!!  Just get all the info, support, etc., that you can from here and any other resource you can put your hands on.  I also recommend getting involved in support groups if you have any in your area.  Good luck!!
