Lawyer?
Personally, I wouldn't do that after just the first denial letter. Did your denial letter state why they were denying you? If so, go back to your pcp and surgeon and try to meet the insurance criteria. Plus, usually insurances have an appeal process that you can do on your own. I would try that first. I agree that a lawyer would be the last resort.
Yah I figured a lawyer as a last resort. I just wanted to ask what others have done, since most of you have been through the whole insurance bologna. Someone on OH has offered to help do my appeal for me. I am so grateful. I wouldn't know where to start. I'm going back to my PCP with a huge list of problems caused by my weight. Thanks for you feedback.
Sounds to me like you're taking the right path - go through as much of the appeal process on your own before thinking about a lawyer. That's great that someone on OH has offered to help you write the appeal letter - that should be a big help to you! Fortunately, my insurance approved me right off so I didn't have to go through that. My thoughts and prayers will be with you that the appeal process will bring you an approval!! :) I see you're a patient of Dr. Oh's - and assume you'll work with his office as well as your PCP to get more info to your insurance company. Dr. Oh's office should be helpful, too, so don't hesitate to get them involved. Good luck and keep us posted!
